435 Low Mode Bracket

Hey was just wondering if there was a place in NYC that rented out the jerry hill low mode bracket for the ARRI 435. I need it for the 24th and the 26th this month, also alternately if anyone has this bracket and is in NYC and is willing to rent it that would be great too.

They do have it but its in Brazil, all they would have is the ARRI low mode bracket which works however its 100% video tap and it means an extra setup everytime we want to go low mode. I've heard of AC's bitching about this mount because there is a danger of exposing the film. I tried Able, they dont have it I guess I'll go with it. Do you know anyone who has it and would be willing to rent it. I would gladly give a deposit worth the replacement of the bracket.

Try Arri Csc in Nj. Isn't 100% video top what you'd want? there's no reason to carry extra unnecessary weight if you don't need to.

Back when I did mostly commercials, I used to fly the 435 about 20 days a month. I always used the 100% video top and can't imagine using that camera any other way.

 

In the hundreds of days spent flying the 435, I've never heard of a light leak from the 100% top. It uses the same screw holes as the eyepiece, so I wonder why it would cause a leak and the eyepiece wouldn't. Again, I've never heard of that being an issue.

 

It does take a minute to switch from the eyepiece to the 100% for steadicam (3 screws for the top, plus 3 to switch the round integrated tap), but I've never been in a situation where that has been a big deal, although we usually had a dedicated body for the steadicam.

 

I'm not an expert on Jerry's bracket having never used it, but I would imagine the camera with the 100% top weighs less than one using Jerry's bracket and the eyepiece and related gear.

 

If you really want to use Jerry's bracket, keep searching, but it isn't necessary if the rental house has the 100%. Personally, I would go that route. Good luck!

PS The bonus in using Jerry's bracket is that it tilts, which is a cool feature.

Have not flown the 435 in a few years now, but Brooks (as usual) calls it how it is.

I always used the 100% video top without any issues for years. It does take a few screws to do the conversion, but any AC worth their salt should be able to do it half asleep, with one hand tied...

I remember the good old days of having to do a GII conversion, with all the different screw sizes and a certain order, now that was fun! :(
