Carl Matthews Posted December 28, 2010 Report Share Posted December 28, 2010 Hi all, I have just purchased the steadicam Flyer LE,brand new from a company in the UK.I have not touched the rig other than inspect it to see if everything is there and not damaged.I have not tried to balance the unit as yet as my camera is away for service. My problem is having researched alot on this and other forums I may be scaring myself to death but i would like other peoples opinions who own or have experience of this matter. When I came to inspect the Gimbal there seems to be SLIGHT play in the bearing housing where the yoke attaches, is this normal to have a little play there or should it be as solid as a rock with no slight play at all.The Flyer LE seems to rotate on the gimbal with no problems but if you were to hold the yoke with thumb and fore finger and rock slightly left to right there is definately slight play there. I also had a problem with the gimbal(unbalance side to side after turning 180 degrees) and mine was replaced with a new one (due to prevent long downtime mainly). What you describe can be normal. The best way to test this, load up the rig with a nice payload, place the gimbal on the balance point on the docking bracket and recheck the play. It should be gone under load. While doing this, check also the static side to side and static for to aft balance. Static balance the rig 100% and then turn the sled 180 degrees..
