Flyer arm to Klassen Vest adaptor

Matthew Clarke-Irons

Hello,

does anyone have or know if there is an adapter that will allow a Steadicam Flyer Arm to mount into my Klassen Vest?

Walter has very kindly told me that he does a carbon arm, to sort the problem, but its a three day Flyer job and I can't see me doing enough Flyer jobs to justify the carbon arm, though it would be nice, its just not what I do.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a female (vest-side) Flyer socket block available to you, then you can simply replace the fullsize socket block with the Flyer block. The hole pattern for the mounting screws is industry-standard, I believe.

If you order one from Tiffen, the part number is 803-7801 and the cost was around $100 a year or so ago. Their ordering system is cumbersome so be prepared for that.

The Klassen system doesn't have the removable socket that you are thinking of, Mark.

Matthew: I had a mod built for my Flyer arm that turns it into a full size socket block:

If you want to rent it for your shoot, let me know.

Nothing really matches, which is why I had the new end made. It's a standard socket block assembly with a custom piece in the middle to mate with the end of the Flyer block. Very easy to swap with the quick-release left right adjustment knobs--you just back them all the way out and swap out blocks.

Hi:

My old Flyer arm has been sold a few times since and I have no idea who has it now. The parts that were made were a one-off from a machinist and I don't know if anyone made others from it.

The old file hosting in post above is no longer operational so here are pics of the mod if it helps:

Thanks a bunch, Charles!! I appreciate you dragging out the pics... looks like some nice machining... :-)

I just happened to hear back from Jennifer at Klassen, and it sounds like they do have some adapter gizmo available.

Should know more when she's back in the office, and it was extra cool that she responds while on Holiday...

thanks again,

Chris

Walter definitely makes one- I have one- the first one they sent me was slightly off- so they sent me out another one- works great!i found it easiest to mount it on the arm male end... Then just dock the arm to the vest "as normal. I hope that makes sense!
