Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted May 2, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 One of my Anton Bauer TWQ four position chargers has developed a snag after four-plus years of constant use. One of the ports shows a solid red light when a battery is placed on it. I’ve tried multiple batteries, but the same thing happens (and the batteries I’ve placed on it charge without issue on the three other ports and also my three other TWQ chargers). I’m wondering if there is a place in Los Angeles that services Anton Bauer chargers, as it seems this is an issue with the charger, not my batteries. Thanks in advance for any help. Brooks Robinson I think the silence may be speaking volumes. I have always sent mine back to AB in CT. You need to download a Repair return sheet from their website, and fill it out. Repairs usually took a couple of weeks-ish. Good luck Brooks. Rich Davis LA
Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted May 3, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Thanks Rich! It has been quiet in this discussion. In thinking a bit more about this (before I saw your post), I remembered 15 years ago when I used to own a couple of Model 2’s with Anton Bauer mounts. One of my chargers went down and I took it to Band Pro in Burbank to be fixed. I contacted them after writing my post on the forum and they still repair AB chargers at $130/hour with a one hour minimum. I wanted to see if anyone else has taken their gear to Band Pro in Burbank and what their experience was. I haven’t dealt with them since 1996 and don’t know if they are as on top of it as they used to be. I also have a note in to Paul Dudeck through the forum asking for a local referral. Thanks. Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted May 3, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Mike Williams in Anton Bauer’s service department wrote back to me today, confirming Rich’s suspicions that the only “authorized” Anton Bauer service facility was back east. As part of his email, he asked what was wrong with my charger. I explained to him what had been happening, and to my surprise, he called me at home few minutes later. He asked if I had a minute to try a couple of things to fix the charger before I went through the time and expense of shipping it back to him. Sure enough, after about a minute of messing around with Mike on the phone, it turned out that the four brass pieces (two banana plugs, two smaller parts) were dirty, causing the charger to misbehave. Thanks to Rich for his help, as well as Mike Williams at Anton Bauer for saving me time and money by helping me fix the problem over the phone. It sure helps to work with companies that follow through with their customers. I know that my next batch of batteries will be Anton Bauer, mostly because of their performance, but also because of their great customer service. Thanks again. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted May 3, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 I get glitches like that occasionally Brooks. I usually take a pencil eraser to the contacts on the charger and all is good again.
