Follow Focus Cases

Hey guys,

I have a Cmotion follow focus system and need a larger case for carry on.

I like the Pelicase 1550 but I'm not sure if everything will fit.

 

What kind of cases do you have?

Hi,

 

For carry-on, I simply use the FIZ bag from Modular51.

I put 3 motors, MDR, Hand Unit and 2nd Hand unit(Focus-IRIS , smaller), sony batteries and charger and all cables needed. It's packed but it's all there.

You might have trouble with the 1550 as a carry-on with certain airlines. This is how I carry my follow focus. We designed the case so that every slot corresponds to its own piece.

I like to use Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes for smaller accessories. They fit perfectly in my Cinebag CB-01. I also have one for my Paralinx Arrow 1:4 kit.

This is the case I had done to take four Axis1 units on planes, mostly to trade shows etc.

 

Its a Storm im2300, foam done by CP Cases in London.

In case some other operators are as anal and OCD like me and spend days of research and contemplating before plucking their first piece of foam or trying to design the best custom insert I thought I'd post mine. It's nothing special but I wasn't able to find a lot of photos on the web for inspiration so I thought I'd add to this thread. Maybe others want to share their layouts as I'd love to see them and can likely learn from them for when I decide to take the next leap to custom foam inserts. Always open to suggestions.

Tips:

- I found it easiest to fully remove sections, cut them to the correct depth, then insert them back in place. This is probably common knowledge but I haven't seen many people do this amongst my small circle of friends but they don't suffer from being anal and OCD like me.

- I also keep my cutouts, and as whole as possible in case I need to change the layout. All temporary until I'm satisfied with a final design and then can bring it in for custom cut foam.

- I also use Fedex waybill pockets with the top cut off under the lids to hold manuals etc. under the convoluted lid foam.

Hi all;

 

I take a completely different approach. I feel llike the Follow focus receiver should permanently stay attached to the sled, even the motor cables hang off of it.

 

When I take the sled out of the case, the set up (preston) should be as close to ready to go as I can make it.

 

The motor cables are wound up under the sled in the case. The Hand Unit is in the well in the case and the motors with their brackets attached are in that same well, no foam, but they don't move much trust me. Antennas there too.

 

A small bag of cables I'm using that day for camera power/transmitters, etc. there too. (often know as ready set up kit of few things you use every day. Transmitter tucked in a corner and docking bracket on wedged in. (standard PRO case).

 

The logic; 1) especially when flying just about everything I need to set up is all in one place, god forbid if airlines loose the other stuff I'm 80% there with a sled case. 2) My set up is minimal, camera plate, batteries and misc. 3) Even if I'm tired or asleep its like legos to put together.

 

Someone asked for other ideas great, but no separate follow focus case, maybe you guys use it separately on rentals or something.

The other parts I use occasionally are in in common accessory case marked follow focus so I can find them fast.

 

It works for me and I can concentrate on other stuff about the day and I only need 4 cases around me to do a set up; sled, vest, batts, and accessories

 

I love the cut outs etc its a work of art but too many parts for me.
