Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted July 22, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 22, 2011 I've considered a Moses Pole in the past but yesterday I saw one in person and at the point the two poles join is has a lot of play in it. The screw bushings part where it screws together get tight but where those bits insert down into the tubes they are loose, just held in by one single pin on each end. All that play makes me nervous to put a big rig on it. Anyone else have experience with this product? Rich told me he didn't get very good service from them on this so he ended up taping the joint over with several layers of gaff. Thanks! Premium Members Russell McElhatton Posted July 23, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 23, 2011 I use a Matthews "turtle" stand with an old DeRose dock on top. The stand is a normal C Stand that allows the post to be removed from the legs. We put a crutch tip on the bottom for non skid and it is two riser adjustable. When you are up four or five steps and the lads can adjust to your normal docking height in an instant it is sweet. Can go lower as well. Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted July 24, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 24, 2011 It's designed to be a lightweight two-piece quick stand you can travel with so welding isn't an option as it's thin tubing too. The problem looks to me that the bolt and receiving ends between the two sections of pole are embedded in Delrin (doesn't feel like metal) and those are only held in by one little compression pin each. It's those two connecting ends where they meet that have too much tolerance / wobble. Anyway, not bashing them just saying I would never trust it to a fully loaded rig. Hey Lawrence, I have an old monopod and an extra docking section and I was going to make my own bitch stick, you have a pict I could see?
