IDX Camwave and EPIC-M

Has anyone figured out a way of getting the CAMWAVE working with a RED EPIC-M yet? I am a bit over flying with a HDSDI cord again as the CAMWAVE doesn't work with 25p only 25PSF.

I am thinking that someone has figured out a way by now by using some kind of small 1080 25P to 720P or 1080 25SPF converter of some sort that can be powered from the sled and stick behind my sled monitor.

The Blackmagic UpDownCross mini converter can make the 1080p signal into 720p which works on the camwave. tested with 1080p25 into 720p50.

RED will not pursue PSF modes on the EPIC, but a future firmware will enable 720p output on the HDSDI in camera.

I shot with the Epic last week and used my CamWave with no issues. I tested 1080 mode and 720 and it worked flawlessly with both. The only thing I can think of is that my CamWave got serviced a few months back and got all new guts. Maybe the newer system is more accepting of "tougher" signals...

Hey all - yeah you need SDI kit capable of working with the "3G" variants to deal with the output from the Epic.

We're about to start a show that has four Epics vision mixed to a live audience (with the real edit happening later from the r3ds) and the vision mixer doesn't like the the 25P 3G from the Epic. We've got a load of those Redbyte converters as mentioned above and they're working great. I also have a original Decimator doing something somewhere and that takes the 3G signal too.

Incidentally I'm using a boxx.tv Meridian to send HD-SDI back from the steadicam and that seems completely happy with the 25P as well. Not tried a CamWave.

EDIT: I think we have the Redbyte converter set to change the 1080 25P to 1080 50i PsF, there's no need to drop down to 720 if you don't want to.

Ed, I don't want more boxes up there!!! After my second scotch at breakfast my eyes don't care if I've dropped to 720p from 1080p. Dan your in America with them weird frame rates. It works fine there 23.94 etc.

The boxx meridian is the daddy but is just too expensive! Especially as the market only wants to pay for a Wevi. Spend 3 times the money.

Transvideo stuff is always great but where is the Titan-HD lite?

I had problems sending it through the camwave with the old build when it only outputted 1080p, but i've tried it with the new build where you can select 720 output and it works fine with the camwave, the boxx works fine with it on either setting. The first time i used i problems getting a down converted image to the monitor but we rang panavision and they said to change the base rate to 23.98 and that worked, but that was fixed on the next build as well. I know other operators who are still regularly having problems with it, but i've not had any problems.
