Matt,

In theory that is correct, but then these are common buggers with the owner/op crowd and then you never know what you are going to get. Granted, you can always start & stop the camera by hand.

As you both are aware there are several ways to integrate a start/stop cable into an Epic/Scarlet system.

1. Using a Red breakout cable you can buy the cable that goes from the MDR2 to a female BNC.

2. Without using the Red breakout you can have a cable made the looks like a regular MDR2 Camera cable that connects the MDR2 to the camera.

3. Or you can make a cable that plugs into the camera and has an intermediate small box with a BNC connection for TimeCode in and a through cable for the MDR2 run command.

Terry West or I can make all of these options so it's a matter of what you need to do. I don't have them listed on my website yet but feel free to call if you need one.

"Given the aforementioned circumstances Chris, I find this a little hard to believe. Can you show some sort of working proof or photos of this alleged Epic run/stop cable of yours. If it works, I'll buy one. But given that the geniuses at Preston and C-motion can't devise a solution, please understand my skepticism."

In response to Richard James Lewis's comment quoted above, I can personally vouch for Chris Konash. Chris makes as professional a cable as anyone in the business, and is know very well on the east coast. I bought a few cables for a pilot in New York from Chris this spring, and they were very well built, and as any good cable man, he had all the pinouts on file.

Do you think maybe you were a little harsh on the man, Richard. Chris is not selling vaporware here, he knows his stuff. Maybe an apology is in order, or better yet, a cable order :-).

Chris made me a custom RED Epic/Scarlet cable that was EXACTLY what I ordered, delivered expeditiously, and works perfectly. I found him to be technically-knowledgable and very understanding of our crazy schedules. +1
