I'm purchasing a provid and I'm looking for the best existing batteries... at an inexpensive price :P So I found the Swit Li-ions 190 Wh (yes I've read the topic about the Li-ions not running a 435 at high speed but as my rig will be a provid, I'll stay far away from every 435's :( ) So I shouldn't have any problem, should I ?! Then I think these Swit Li-ions might be a nice choice. Here in France, several rental houses use now these batteries on their video cameras. That I consider as a proof of the product being OK (by the way, any of your feedback on Swit would be welcome !) But let's get back to my topic ! Here is my question for the provid owners: Please, what is the weight of the batteries you are using ? Are you happy with it or would you prefer having lighter / heavier batteries ? Yet what is the ideal battery weight for a provid when working with "heavy" :D configurations like 16mm or digibeta ?... The swit 190Wh weight 1,3 kg (2,8 lbs) and I'm afraid they might be too lightweight to get dynamic balance correct. What do you think of it ? Premium Members Jason Williams Posted January 28, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 I bought my Provid from Optex and it came with four brick type PAG batteries, and having recelled one, I managed to get them all to the same weight .... and I'm very happy with the weight as it does put the rig in perfect dynamic balance, making a wonderful rig to operate. I would imagine that lighter or heavier batteries wouldn't work for this point, anything other would be virtually impossible to balance correctly, but I'm not too clued up on other batteries, only the ones I use! RobinThwaites Posted January 28, 2005 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 Hi Nicolas You may well find that the Swit (or any lithiums) are a bit light for ideal balance. With a heavy camera you will need to make the post quite long, if it ia s ProVid HD with an LCD monitor even more so. Try looking at the PAG C50 or PP20 type which are NiCad and not too expensive, lower capacity but more weight. The 9398 "Bricks" like Jason's are even better and very robust. After a look on Pag's website, the "brick" batteries weight 2kg (4,4 lbs) Which is a little more than the Li-ion's. Premium Members Jason Williams Posted January 28, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 Here's a small tip; when I'd recelled one of the batteries I had added an extra cell, so to make the rest the same weight I bought some lead flashing (I think it's called that) - the goes on house roofs, and cut small peices and placed them between the foam and the housing until each weighed the same, so at least then when you change batteries, a rebalance shouldn't be necessary.
