Job,

The HP transmitter, coupled with the large high-gain antenna/receiver that I’ve been using on my current show is $9000. This combination isn’t listed on the website, but makes the most sense to me for the kind of shows I work on. The same transmitter with a hand-held director’s monitor/receiver is somewhat less expensive.

Again, I don’t own this set-up, but am considering purchasing it after having worked with it on the feature I’m on. I haven’t tested it on long runs with obstructions and walls, but it has worked without issue on line of sight shots. It is certainly worth considering if you are in the market for a wireless HD set-up.

We used this Tx/Rx on my last job at Union Station. Rock-solid signal with the big 4 bank receiver-antenna. We were line of sight, maybe 120' away outside and perfect signal. We had a few sets of concrete stairs and other large obstacles in our way once we shot on the tracks, indoors. Again, perfect signal. Honestly, it's the first time I've been on a shoot where I never heard "Where's the video?" once. Nacho and his lady were the VTR folks and they are known for carrying quality gear and being very adept at using said gear.

Also, the size is perfect. Almost identical to my Canatrans and, as such, it fits into the slot where the hard-drive would go on a RED ONE cradle (was using it on an EPIC).

Very, very solid system.

The video assist guy who had complained about the graininess of the picture on the job I tested the HP transmitter/receiver has bought one and now is a big fan. No problems going through walls (not concrete) and no complaints about the quality of the picture. He also liked how fast it boots up.
