It's a fair point. If you're trying to compare apples to apples, you should price out what it would cost to get the same lift range with both arms. But to be fair, that doesn't mean 8 canisters. It's six: 2 blue and 4 black gets you a very similar weight range. So yeah, the Pro arm costs more up front.

In that regard, also fair to mention: as of this summer, those six canisters can be 2 blue, 2 black, 2 gray. For the same (or or slightly higher?) price you get greater range of lift capacity which justifies the greater expense by itself (assuming you need that much lift some day) and then you go back to the apples vs apples.

I'm only talking about paper comparisons of course. I don't own either arm, but will try everything (again) before upgrading to one of them.

Wow, I wasn't expecting a PRO arm and canisters to be anywhere near the price range of the G70x...18k...sheesh.

Well, gonna have to add a PRO to the list and convince the money holders here to consider it...especially if the maintenance costs will be reduced.

Now if I could demo a PRO for a week...

Replace all at the same time if one breaks? Robert has told me he inspects the other springs for damage or hairline cracks after a repair do to spring failure...and repaced as he saw fit. I've always trusted his expertise.

I've actually never kept track on specifically which spring failed with my repairs...which maybe I should have. It would be interesting to see if there was a pattern with my arms.

Robert might have some insite on this..

Hi!

To me happened exactly the same thing two weeks ago while on a shoot in a close to freezing temperature shoot in Minsk.

Just got back from there, so now I'm starting to look ways to get it fixed. Probably Mr. Luna is the way to go.

On a visual check it seems that I can get away with new spring and few rollers. Looks like the case is not damaged nor bent. We'll see.

But, please keep us posted about what's happening with your arm!

All the best!

Some spring breaks on these arms are collateral damage from cable breaks. I am not saying this one was or wasn't but it is a good reason for getting the arm checked regularly. Cable breaks can also be a knock on effect from damaged pulley wheels or misalignement (maybe where someone has turned back the spring tension and the spring has twisted) so worth sighting along the cables occasionally.

AD says( YELLS) "Roll Audio, "Speed", Background action, Roll Camera "Speed", Director yells "Action"

SNAP!!!!, The top section of the part of the arm closest to me broke in two....The Top spring broke, sending one of the pieces thru the aluminum spring cover .

Did you have a back up arm? What does one do if it happens and doesnt bring a back up? Having bungee cords to get thru the rest of the day? ;-)

that brought back horrible memories. I did not have a backup arm. but as luck would have it, our grip was buying steadicam gear and had a 3a arm at home. he went and got it and we

finished the day, and i believe he got some rental cash for it. production had insurance and the arm was rebuilt

by Robert Luna and is still with me to this day working very well. I think that was 2005. Its the only time ive ever had an arm issue. Turned out my arm did not have the gold springs

it supposively had when i bought it. So Robert put in the right stuff.

Hi guys;

Perspective here.

The Master Series arms were made before most of you were born.

They are not the most current technology. Don't freak out, they are rare and on the resale market only.

You have lots of options, 3A, and lots of others.

My 3A is 25+ yrs old and works just great on thousands of shoots.

This was and is the first and only time something like this happened to me on a set, and the production co took care of it So I could not comment on how common it is, But I had my insurance anyway just incase anything like this would happen. I offered and paid their deductible of $500 and they paid the difference to Robert and then got re embursed by their Ins. co. Great guys, Did 3 Music Videos for them, all 35, all fantastically well organized.
