Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted November 25, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 25, 2011 Quick question. Is the socket block for the Zephyr arm and vest the standard large rig size, or the standard small rig size? If it's the smaller size, then can you pull it off and put it onto a larger vest (eg, using the Zephyr arm and sled on a WK or PRO vest?) I can't tell from the pictures and I haven't seen the spec listed anywhere. Thanks -David
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted November 25, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 25, 2011 The Zephyr arm is a scaled up Flyer LE arm, so it has the smaller socket block size. The hole pattern on smaller vests is the same as it is on bigger vests, however. (Even the Pilot's socket block will fit with a couple of modifications on any standard vest - it'll use only 4 out of 6 screws, but it fits.) So, you can fit it on a front mounted vest, like a PRO or a 3A. The Klassen won't work though. It uses a socket block built into the carbon arm. Best bet there would be to fashion up a custom bracket to mount a full-size socket block on the end of the arm. You're looking at serious $$$ to do that, but if you've got a Klassen already, it might make sense. The Zephyr vest is really nice though. Felt a lot more like a full-sized vest than the previous smaller vests (which I had never been 100% comfortable with). Try it out before you move onto another vest. Premium Members Darren McDonald Posted April 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 13, 2012 Do basically if I bought a Klassen vest for my Zephyr I would need to get a carbon arm made with a smaller socket or do they make them? Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 13, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted April 13, 2012 Darren, as much as I love Walter Klassen and others swear by his vest, there is no need for a Zepher. It probably weighs more than the rest of the rig!
