Premium Members Steven Moreno Posted December 12, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2011 Hey All I have a Bartech Focus Device, but no working motor. I am looking to buy a used motor, and I understand that I can use any of the following... Palomar Engineering: M-One. M-One .5 Focus Heden: M26P, M26PT, M28VP*, M28VPT*, M32P, M32PT, M21VP* * requires a no-cost modification to the BFD for optimum performance Stanton: Right angle motor (requires a no-cost modification to the BFD to prevent motor damage) Cinema Products: ZB-100, SLD-100 SPF: FMG-6 But which? Can anyone suggest a standout amongst these? Thanks!
Premium Members Caleb Ennis Posted December 12, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2011 I use the Stanton RA motor with my BFD. Works perfect and is fairly quite.

Skip the following FMG-6, anything Cinema Products and the Stanton Buy either the M-One or a Heden Bottom line is ONLY purchase something that is Current, Has good service and is common to your market. Buy Quality once, don't delude yourself into the false economy of buying the "Cheaper" motor, because it WILL break, you WON'T get service and then you WILL buy the higher priced higher quality motor. Premium Members Steven Moreno Posted December 13, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks Guys! I'll be on the hunt for a M-One for sure. That was my gut instinct, anyway.
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted December 13, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2011 One thing about the Stanton motor BFD mod, although reversable, it "breaks" compatibility with other motors. So if your motor goes down, you may not be able to borrow a compatible backup. That said, the Stanton motors are cheap enough maybe you could buy a backup. But as Eric pointed out, they are noisy and so are very limited for wireless FF applications.
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 13, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2011 What is the modification for some of the Heden motors? The Heden M28VP is another nice motor to consider. Not as powerful as the M-One but a good solid motor. -Jess

The older M26P motors are just fine. The modification requires changing 4 resistors. I charge $25 in labor for existing units and include it at no charge on new units. Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted December 14, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 14, 2011 Jim, Did I correctly state the situation with the Stanton motors? I have the M28VPT motor, and BFD which I believe you verified had been previously modified. How does this mod affect compatibility to other motors (M-One, M26PT, etc)?
