Rush Jopson
Was this question some kind of joke? It comes off pretty elitist when you are expected to know the last name of the inventor of the steadicam...seriously its something I would look at changing, unless you want guys like me that are new to steadicams to not be able to register on your forums. Theres no explanation, its just says "Garretts surname" then a box...very confusing and personally I had no idea who you were talking about, took me a day to ask around friends that work in the industry what the hell this question was, a steadicam operator finally said "uh I think the guy that invented the steadicam was called Garrett something" so then I had to google him and find the name...sorry to whinge but seriously guys that is a retarded way to start someone out on your forums, I would imagine plenty of newbies cant figure that out and never bother registering (is that your master plan?...) Premium Members William Demeritt Posted January 4, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 Was this question some kind of joke? I'm finding it pretty funny. I guess I'll just say: 1) he's not some ethereal historical figure, but rather a person many of us have the pleasure of knowing... so knowing the last name of the man who created the tool whose primary focus is the forum you're signing up for doesn't seem like a tall order? and 2) As Nick is implying, you're on a website dedicated to Steadicam, and the hint is "Garrett's surname". So, here you go: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=steadicam+Garrett

Don't like the question, DON'T join the forum, no one is forcing you. If it's too much trouble for you to find the answer via google then I'm guessing it's going to be too much of a problem for you to search the forum and find answers to any of your questions before you ask them.... Damn too late you already did that Janice to the Newbie aisle for a clean up.......

Luckily you have industry friends that know stuff. That is messed up you had to use Google.
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted January 4, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 Hey guy, way to make a great first impression!! 75% of my jobs come from referrals from my Steadicam friends. I've got a feeling you haven't exactly made any here. Good thing no serious operators hang out here. ...oh wait... they all do.

Martin Hawkes
Ah, I love to take a stroll through the forum. Never know what sort of public display you may see; enlightening, entertaining, enriching, perhaps even a flogging. G'day to all and happy 2012! Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted January 5, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 5, 2012 I think its time to make the question harder :-) I joined another forum recently that had a rather high level and poorly worded math question to prove you were a person. The forum hafd absolutely nothing to do with math. In comparison ours is really easy even if you have no clue about steadicam.

Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted January 12, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted January 12, 2012 I think its time to make the question harder :-) What was the name of Garrett Browns first album (LP) and what instrument did he play ? :D :D :D :D
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted January 12, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 12, 2012 Funny, I was thinking that Brown and Dana trivia would be a good bet. Maybe there should be a super-secret inner circle here that would require a top-level trivia question that wouldn't show up on Google, such as the name of the rhinoceros that charged Garrett during the filming of "Altered States"...?!?
