going for an upgrade

Hello all!!!

Long time no see unless we all had webcams, anyway, my question is this...

I've been a SK2 operator for about 3 years and I was thinking of going up to the master series, used that is, and I know I'll have to go to some workshops to get it dialed in cause I WOULD NOT fly it without it. Would it be a wise desion to do so or find a different model to go to, and no if anyone is wondering about if I'm going to sell my old rig. How about input. Thanks.

Oh by the way if any of you remeber me talking about a film that I first flew the rig on called "DRIP" well check out the web site at www.dripmovie.com and watch the behind the scenes footage and see me flyin for the fist time as my cherry was popped

Nikk;

There are a lot of types of rigs out there, and many cost the same as the Masters. I owned a Masters and still own a Masters arm, which I like. But if I were to buy a used rig at this point, I might aim for a PRO 1 rig and aim to upgrade it in the future, or possibly put together a rig consisting of a PRO ll post and a battery cage either from Jerry Hill of maybe MK-V, with a PRO ll Dbox and a gimbal that you feel you can afford and will work for the type of work that you do.

As for monitors, there are many more choices out there than there were a year ago. BlackBird, Hummingbird, TB6, upgraded Transvideo, Tamuz just to name a few.

Don't get me wrong, the Masters are good machines, but they are limited as far as expansion and growth are concerned, and that is a problem for someone growing in the industry. So when you buy a rig, think about what you would like to be doing in 3 or 4 years and think if that rig can grow with your dreams.

Good luck.

Jamie.

Nikk,

I agree with Jamie. But don't be in a rush. Didn't you just start operating about

Get some more experience under your belt and save up some money.

Then think about upgrading to a system that will allow you to grow.

By the way, I looked at the trailer. Must have been summer there considering you had young girls in their panties and underwear walking around. Those jobs are great. I do vaguely remember you posting about it several months ago too.

Good luck, but be patient with the upgrading.

I've gotten considerly better in operating especially when it come to the compistion aspect of it and it's been about 2years now and work has been consitantly good. My only prob is with the SK unit It would be a waste to upgrade the arm and post where I could get a better one that could hold more, and with the patience aspect of it, Your right I have to have but at the same time I'm missing alot of opertunities where I could fly some HD Cams but I'm limited to 19 to 20lbs and those cams with the Fox FF and a Pro 35 ect,ect goes WAY OVER my rigs limit. That's all I'm saying. I'm not as green as I was before I'm rippening evch and every time I mount up. I NEED MORE POWER!!!! Any more suggestions??

It really doesn't matter how well you operate. Even I get jobs.......... What is of utmost importance is what kind of jobs are you doing/losing. So with that in mind here are a few steps:

1) Size up your market. Don't over or underestimate, be honest. Get a rig that is appropriate for your current needs

2) Look at your pocket book. That is the most important issue. You can't buy what you can't afford.

3) Make the rig as flexible as possible. It should be able to grow with your needs, hence the reasoning behind not buying an old Masters rig, not very expandable.

Maybe you should think about getting a 3A arm in excellent condition, and a PRO 1 Sled, with a good LCD monitor. That is one way to start and it won't hold you back.

Also think about getting an upgraded Masters vest or a PRO vest if you can find one that fits you.

As for follow focus, talk to the guy at the Playboy mansion, I hear he has something available, if he is not too busy that is.
