Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted March 10, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 10, 2013 Watts is watts. Correct. Never said that 12V vs. 24V made a difference in runtime. Only makes a difference in lowering the amperage being pushed through the 22AWG wiring of the Zephyr sled. This, in my understanding, reduces the heat buildup in the wires. Talking about heat buildup. Given the same power draw (watts), Greater voltage= lower amps=less heat buildup. Sorry Mark but it doesn't work that way. Watts is a way of expressing electrical work no matter the input voltage. Heating is still the same because you are passing the same amount of power
Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted March 10, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 10, 2013 Not so! Heating in the power line is caused by current not by wattage. The more you raise the voltage, the smaller the diameter of the wire can be. That’s why we have 230 Volts in Europe. It´s more dangerous, but we do need much less copper in our power lines. Premium Members Jonathan Pfundstein Posted April 23, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 Does anyone have any specifics for the 2nd battery dovetail mounting or battery configuration in terms of inputs, switches, orientations? I mounted it the most intuitive way with the plug to go in the 12/24v input (which I assume is correct) and its in opposite orientation from the other AB mounts. Also as I understand (I switch position) is 12v and (II) is 24 volt? Why is there such little literature from Tiffen on this product? EbenTian
Hi...i am a new user here. As per my knowledge all the power connectors are wired together on the Zephyr, so when in 12V mode, 12V only is available on all connectors. IN 24V mode, all connectors have 12V OR 24V available, depending on the pinout of your cables. With this implementation, when you are in 24V mode, the 12V accessories are still getting 12V, due to the way the 3pin lemos are wired. Every couple of years I run into this issue (since I rarely power cameras from the sled) and have never really come across a definite answer on the forums. I've searched a lot of the hot terms ("zephyr power" "hot-swap") and still no luck . Can we sticky a post listing all the potential Zephyr power issues? There are multiple posts discussing lots of important info for Zephyr owners that are pretty hard and time consuming to navigate through. The real question is what position does the switch on the Tiffen battery plate provide 12 vs 24v power, I Or II?
