Premium Members Spencer Combs Posted May 3, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2012 I Have the same problem with an old Master sled I am going to sell. What ever became of your gimbal repair David? I was able to remove the gimbal and separate the broken piece but can't seem to navigate seperating the rest of the gimbal intop its pieces. I feel if I had the rest apart i could service the entire thing and repair/replace the sleeve. Is there any link online to instructions/pictures on how to disassemble the gimbal. Any advice would be appreciated! (god I love my PRO)

Premium Members John E Fry Posted May 3, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2012 I have a similar problem! Has anyone got any advice for finding a replacement EFP gimbal clamp? I think it must've been overtightened during last weeks course, & it's broken in two! There's work lined up for it so if anyone has any suggestions for a modern replacement anywhere near the UK we'd be much obliged please! It's the original Allen keyed ring at the bottom of the gimbal grip, without which the gimbal just slips freely up & down the post, just to avoid any confusion! Cheers all! Premium Members James Puli Posted May 3, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) John - I had that happen on a job a few years ago. Its not ideal, but as a get out of jail card .... I put my lowmode docking collar above the gimbal and locked it off as tight as I could which held the gimbal in place. It saved my ass on that job, but like I said ... not ideal! Hugo Langer @ Steadyrig then made me a tools free clamp which worked a treat! In your area, I know MK-V used to do tools free upgrades for EFP's! Edited May 3, 2012 by James Puli

Chris Allen
Recently had the same issue with one of our Ultra1's. Got the upgraded U2 sleeve and clamp from Tiffen...works great. Plus, they were nice enough to cut me a great deal price wise, as well as providing a loaner demo rig while the repair was being made. Tiffen really stepped up and helped us out on this one. Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted July 6, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2012 More gimbal problems! The gimbal clamp is missing a screw. I don't know if it was like this when I got it back or if it fell out, but I only have one screw on the gimbal clamp now... Calling Micheal Craigs when the California shop opens today... Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted July 6, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2012 None of the hardware stores near me carry screws this small. I checked.
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted July 6, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2012 You sure it's metric? Looks like it could be 4-40 to me. What size allen wrench did it use? If it's 4-40, you might be able to find something locally. If it's a weird metric size, you can order a box of them from McMaster-Carr for around $5. http://www.mcmaster.com/#socket-head-cap-screws/=iajdqz

Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted July 7, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 7, 2012 Tom, I looked at the McMaster-Carr page and my brain started fizzling. I think I got the right screw (part #92196A107).
Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted July 8, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 8, 2012 It's a 3/32" allen wrench, so it's not metric.
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted July 8, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 8, 2012 If it's a 3/32" allen wrench, then you've got a 4-40 on your hands. Makes sense, Tiffen's based in the US, so their screws should be imperial, not metric. Sounds like you've got the right part number at McMaster, but you might be able to find some at Home Depot. They sometimes carry tiny little screws in drawers. Might be worth a try, or just buy the box of them from McMaster-Carr, which does ship pretty quick.
