Kelly SOC Posted April 28, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2012 Hi all, Just got my Nexus gimbal back today from MK-V to service an issue with a sticking gimbal sleeve. That problem is fixed but now when panning the gimbal and/or the bearings make excessive noise. I'm talking noise akin to a rub sound but it's loud enough that it could be heard over dialogue. As well I feel more friction via tactile feedback through the grip and the friction seems to increase to what I'll call the worst and back down to it's normal over an area likened to say 30-50 degrees over the expanse of a 360 degree pan. I know they worked on the gimbal as I can see fresh lubricant. This is just me spinning a naked center post section and gimbal with no weight on it as I have not yet rebuild the sled but I have to asume that this is bad as the gimbal felt smoother and was much quieter before. Just not sure if the weight factor had anything to do with it. Should I be under the impression that a perfect gimbal would be near silent when whip panning? Bear with as I am a novice operator still learning he ropes. Any thoughts or impressions on what would cause the gimbal to sound/feel this way especially when it's fresh out of the shop? If the bearings aren't sealed, you may be able to clean them yourself, but if you don't have experience with that kind of thing then you should send it out for service. You need to adjust the two screws on the side of the gimbal, where it attaches to the yoke. They're probably covered by caps, but if you take those off and fiddle with the screws a bit, it should fix your problem. You'll need to balance the gimbal once you fix the friction. David with all due respect I'm not sure how helpful "fiddle with the screws a bit" really is, especially with a gimbal design that you are not familiar with. Sometimes its better not to say anything, unless you are really sure. Alan tell mk-v the problem and then send it back. Very best, Rick.
