Premium Members Joshua Gitersonke Posted July 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 13, 2012 Ok, the new Smallhd Dp7 pro high bright could possibly Take the cake for steadi monitors. If its as viewable in the sun as I hope it is. It will also Have h.264 recording to An sd card. Forget about that atomos samurai, ki pro mini, or pix 240. My reel doesnt need a 220mgbit file. It cross converts almost every input output you can put into it. Forget the external cross convertor box. Just look at the website. Smallhd.com. Its also 720p resolution. Sharp as a tac. There are so many things this monitor is good for. And its $2699.00. If i can see the image outside Im in.
Premium Members Andrew Ansnick Posted July 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 13, 2012 I can see the appeal of eliminating any up/down/cross converter boxes, although I don't actually use any on my rig. The built in recording capabilities is what interests me. Definitely an option I'd like to see integrated into the Cinetronic monitors down the road *cough Chris**. Â As far as day light view-ability is concerned it sounds like it's lacking in that department, both screen options. "Daylight Viewable (1000 nit) 1280 x 800 LCD with Replaceable Anti-Reflective Polycarbonate Screen Protector ...OR... 1280 x 800 OLED (250 nit) display with Gorilla Glass Touch Screen Overlay" (from SmallHD's website) Â I don't think it'll be taking the cake anytime soon, however, it's at a decent price point and definitely a contender we should include in the next monitor shoot out if we can get our hands on one.
Premium Members chris bangma Posted July 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 13, 2012 With the new Cinetronic monitor the back is interchangeable, so you can mount the flavor of the month recorder onto the back of it. As for the SmallHD, I believe the screen they are using has been delayed in manufacturing, so it wont be available for a while.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted July 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 13, 2012 I might have one of these new monitors in the NY area to test out in the next few weeks. I will keep y'all posted. I have my doubts that it will be any brighter than a nebtek or transvideo but am looking forward to seeing how it performs. Premium Members Dean Smollar Posted September 10, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 10, 2012 Here's the spec sheet. The cross conversion capabilities are interesting. The built in recorder is a neat feature and the price is definitely a plus.

Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 16, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 16, 2012 What is the minimum brightness a monitor needs to be viewable in direct sunlight?
Premium Members chris bangma Posted November 2, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 2, 2012 What is the minimum brightness a monitor needs to be viewable in direct sunlight? Â This is really a loaded question, since there are many opinions. A 500 nit transflective screen may be sunlight viewable under the right circumstances. Other screens claim to be sunlight viewable at 800 nits. In the end it all comes down to contrast. The greater the contrast, and the greater the difference between ambient light, the better the view-ability is. A 800 nit screen may be sunlight viewable, but you will have very poor contrast between the bright objects and the dark ones. Things get better in the 1000-1200 nit range, and even better at 1500. Since contrast plays such a big part, starting with a screen that has good contrast, and then making some contrast enhancements make it better. Also if you can knock down the light entering the screen, diminishing the contrast, then you make the screen more viewable. This is why we optically bond our monitors, since it reduces the reflections between the lcd and the protective glass, and increases the contrast. Brent Johnson
I also have one reserved, bummer it's getting pushed back till Q1
Premium Members chris bangma Posted November 6, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 6, 2012 I also have one reserved, bummer it's getting pushed back till Q1 Â Yes, there has been a delay from the manufacturer of this panel. We will be integrating the same panel into our monitors as well. Of course we will do our normal tweaks to improve the brightness and viewability.

NOT Simon Blouin
Hi Chris, I just had a response from Dave at Small HD and aparently, they are shipping pre-orders in two weeks! Non-preorders will probably get shipped around end of august. Can't wait to test it out.
