@Jens: what do you think about the rainbow HD outside by a sunny day? And did you have a chance to compare it to a SmallHd DP7 HB?

My Rainbow HD is the standard brightness version and I only use it for regular operating.

Having said that, I like the AR coating on it and its brightness and contrast is sufficient.

The high brightness version is 900 vs 450, should be plenty bright when used with a shade.

Has anyone had an issue with their DP7 where the refresh rate just slowwwwwed waaaay down to the point that there are ghost images trailing the action?? Also, frame lines burned in from only a few minutes of exposure.

Monitor is currently on its way for repair, but this is the SECOND time I've had to ship it back in a year. :-\

Is this an anomaly? Did I just get a dud of a monitor?

Are you overheating it? And are you running the fan on its max setting? I know mine gets fairly toasty when driven hard...

Had a chance to test my DP7 Pro SB (Standard Brightness), for delay today, and it's less than one frame.

I tested it with my Blackmagic 4K and a timecode slate, at 25p.

Camera display (and thus output I guess) vs reality is about 3 Frames (somewhere between 2 and 3) and Camera Display vs DP7 Pro appears

around than 1 Frame. Tested with a slate that shows 100ths of seconds, it is reality to camera 10/100 and camera to DP7 5/100

(so reality to dp7 15/100 or about 4 frames). Good news is, the DP7 holds these 5/100 no matter what adjustment you introduce, enable a LUT

and show half-screen 50% opacity waveform - still 5ms. That's impressive =)

Which brings me to a question: in your picture, Afton, you show a photo of the real slate vs the DP7, with 4 frames delay. That matches my findings.

Could you test to see how much delay is actually introduced by the cameras output, maybe by attaching a second monitor you know to be good as

reference and taking a photo of both monitors? In my experience, every camera has a delay between 1 and 3 frames vs reality, so maybe that plays

a part? Or maybe of course, the DP7 HB-Version has more delay, which would be very frustrating.

I did the same test when the camera was in studio mode with the TVLogic 5.6" on board monitor - plugged directly into the camera. 2 frames delay. In theory, my SmallHD on my sled is also directly connected to the camera, however it does go through a handful of intermediate connections between itself and the camera. I don't know engineering enough to know if that does or doesn't add delay. I'll see if I can test today - bypassing the sled.

I dont think the intermediate connections could cause a delay. But I might be wrong about this.

Just can't imagine a short run of cables and connectors causing 2 frames added delay.

All other circumstances being the same, it looks like the DP7 has a lot of delay then.

Question is, is it a faulty unit or a bug in the HB versions?

I've send back my DP7 HB once, the horizontal indicator was getting mad after one hour or less due to heat. The motherboard has been change and

since I haven't experiment hardware issue. So I don't consider my DP7 HB as a faulty unit, but it seems that the HB and only this version as looong delay!

The intermediate connections don't cause delay, it only degrade the signal quality. Delay could only be generate by a signal processing.

At the moment the only thing I don't understand is why the HB version have more latency then the SB, both are base on the same LCD technology!

Hmmmm...

It's nothing I haven't sonde before with this monitor a hundred times. I don't get it.

As for my screen name, I sent that post from the tappatalk app on my phone. I guess it didn't post all of my info. Sorry 'bout that.

Has anyone had any issues with their SmallHD high bright not getting a signal? I’ve been using my 2 new SmallHD monitors with my XCS Ultimate 1 and a Sony F55 for the past week and this is the first time my new monitors have been used. Today on set, we powered the rig up and while the monitor powered up, the SDI signal didn’t show up. We turned the monitor on and off with no results. Eventually the signal came back and I did the shot. After we moved on (and not having a clear indication of what caused the issue) I swapped out my problem monitor with its twin SmallHD backup monitor. We powered it up and went to do the next shot without issue.

We spent time on our conventional camera before moving back to the steadicam. We powered the rig up and the monitor turned on, but like before, the new replacement didn’t get a signal. We ran the same dianostics again, but it wouldn’t get a signal until we unplugged the hirose power cable from the monitor and plugged it back in. Then the monitor worked and we went on with the day.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this, or are my two monitors an anomaly? I value any and all responses.

Hi Brooks,

I also experiment this issue but fortunately it's very rare, and when it occur I simply "reboot" the monitor by power it off and on again.

Our monitors are computer with only one task, display the best picture.

If this issue show up more often I would request the SmallHD support.

I tried testing today with the MON OUT output from an Alexa Plus (SUP 9.0.2) to a TVLogic 5.6 (VFM056), TVLogic 5.5 (VFM058) and a DP7 Pro OLED...all showed 3 frame delay fairly consistently. I wonder what the variable is that got you to get 2-frame delay...perhaps SUP version, or Alexa models...

Hey Brooks, I've seen it too. Very infrequently, maybe once out of 20 or 30 boot ups. And it always comes back after a reboot.

Also the last firmware update had a minor glitch, I think it was telling me I was at an unacceptable version to upgrade from (which was incorrect), then after the next attempt it was fine.

I chalk it up to some minor software bugs lurking in there...
