Alan, FYI: a couple of basics on LCD panels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid-crystal_display

When Chris is talking about screen he means the matrix portion of the screen and that is the same for both Cinetronic and smallHD. What Chris does is to replace the backlight with a brighter one and optically bond the screen to the front glass element among other things.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we already have the panels in-house, and the backlight-upgrading is taking place as I type this. The better news is that shipping for HB-SX pre-orders are scheduled to start in mid-July. This does mean that there will be a several week back-order for those who have not placed a pre-order, though. We will ship the pre-orders first.

To be clear, the brightness on this model is listed at 1500 NITS, but can exceed its listed brightness.

The DP7-Pro OLED-SX monitors will be shipping in 2-3 weeks for those that have placed a pre-order.

Please don't hesitate to contact our Support Team if you have questions about your pre-order! support@smallhd.com

Thanks,

Dave

I just got this response from SmallHD Re: Digital Level:

Hi Alan!

Yes, the DP7-PRO OLED-SX will be gyroscopically dampened as of the next major software update, which is scheduled for the end of this month (the week of the 22nd).

As far an integrated X-Port accessory, that's something that hasn't been decided - or really asked for yet. It's been discussed, and is very possibly, but is not definite yet. I've passed your interest along to our CTO and the design team so they are aware of the need.

Thanks so much for your feedback!
Please let me know if there's anything else I can answer for you.

Best,

Kristen

Here's a video of the features of the DP7:

They don't touch on the digital level for the HB, which is disappointing. I'm hoping that they build an interface to the X-port that allows the use of an external sensor.

Thanks for posting that Alan. OLED is beautiful. I have to say that I saw the High Bright model at their booth at Cinegear and it was the most daylight viewable of any that I saw that day. Wish the OLED could match that.

I received the OLED DP-7 PRO two days ago. Bought it as an on board monitor, not for steadicam monitoring. It's got an amazing screen and the color balance was almost perfect out of the box.

What I noticed is the user interface has been very well tough out. Menus appear very clearly and going thru them is intuitive and blazing fast with the scroll wheel. I wished my Cinetronic Gen 2 had something similar.

Also a nice feature is a floating warning when you loose the signal . Not a blank screen or a blue screen but an actual pop up line crossing the frame stating what the problem is.

The gorilla glass feels exactly like an Iphone but is also a real mirror . Aluminum casing is nice and feels solid but the thing is VERY light.

And of course , it has so many accessories available . Now I will put it thru hell for the next 2 or 3 weeks and will report on performance afterwards.

Right now, this OLED monitor is the best screen I have seen for on board monitoring yet ( right next to the Rainbow HD from Transvideo) but I want to field test it before raising my thumbs.

Cheers,

Frederic

We will do some cleaning up on the menu, once a few of the other things are out of the way. We figured we can make everything pretty at any point, but wanted to get the monitor in the hands of people as soon as we could, so they would have something usable.
