Premium Members Dan Ayers Posted August 23, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2012 I have some full speed running shots coming up and was wondering how fast can you go on a Rickshaw? Is there a better alternative? Thanks, Dan
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted August 23, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2012 I would be inclined to say FULL SPEED running isn't right for a rickshaw: getting up to speed, keeping it in the right direction, wobbly wheels could mean problems. For full speed running, I'd probably request a Griptrix: hard mount, speed adaptable, very reliable at those speeds. Also, you won't burn up the grips pushing the rickshaw at full sprint for a shot and then needing to slow something that massive down by hand. EDIT: Sidenote, your website is offline right now because it's hosted on .Mac, and they closed it down last month. Just FYI.
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted August 23, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2012 You could probably get up to a pretty good speed but I do not think it's the right tool for the job. Griptrix or something like that. If that's not available, so many key grips have an atv or rhino or something like that they can rig with a hard mount. Even wearing the rig on the back of a golf cart would be a better option.
Premium Members Thomas English Posted August 23, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2012 Maximum speed sprint is a bad idea on a rickshaw as it leaves nothing left for the grip to speed up to pull it backwards to slow it down... If you see what I mean.
Premium Members Dan Ayers Posted August 23, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2012 Grip Trix is too big to get through people. That was our first choice.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted August 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 What camera are you using? You can do it yourself.....hehehehe It takes a moment to get up to speed, but when you do, you can ride and shoot faster than most can run. if there is dialogue to cover from the runner, then it might not be a good idea. I have another bike that the AC rides and pedals and I sit on the back in a bolted in tractor chair facing backwards while shooting handheld. Premium Members Steve Acheson Posted August 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 This cart is only 30" wide and top speed of 10 mph http://www.cartmart.com/taylor-dunn-personnel-carriers.php and if you need to chase the person rather then proceed there is this cart 29.5" top speed of 8mph http://www.cartmart.com/taylor-dunn-stockchasers.php Since the average human running speed is around 9 mph they might work out of you... Premium Members William Demeritt Posted August 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 Grip Trix is too big to get through people. That was our first choice. Put a cow catcher on the front, and you can get through lots of people! Take 2 might have fewer capable extras, though...
Premium Members Dan Ayers Posted August 24, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 They are worried about the 300 extras we are going to have. I figure with that many, we could run over a few, but they see it differently!! Thanks, Dan
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted August 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 How about a segway? Top speed is 12.5mph (so says the Internet), but the danger goes from running over the extras to you tripping at doing a face plant.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted August 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2012 Describe the shot, and what camera are you going to use? both of those things will steer the advice in certain directions...
