Yo!

To all those who have not experienced the wonders of off roading in a Hummer H1 check it out. Ron Baldwin and I went on the gnarliest off road trail I have ever been on. We were with 5 other hummer H1s and we looked like bad asses comming through the trails. One guy broke a axle and everyones hummers got scratched up like crazy. It was one of the best times off roading I have ever had and I am a southern boy so I have done plenty of off roading. If you ever get a chance to go with Ron in his hummer...........DO IT! You will trip out.

Ron:

We need to schedule another steadicam off road event. I wasn't able to go to the others, but would love to now. Of course I need to go with you since my suburban is limited in the trails I can fit through. I can't follow the Jeep guys! Lets Go!!

Hey Dan,

I just noticed you said there were trails your suburban can't fit through. Ron and the other hummer owners on this trip basically went through everything including trails most trucks can't fit through. At one point we all went through one spot where everyone scratched and dented their hummers because we all tipped to one side and hit a rock wall. Rons hummer came out with a pretty good scratch but the hummer wagons got worked with scratches and dents. Another time we went through a spot on the trail where we slide to the passenger side where my face was about 3 inches from a rock wall. I watched Rons mirror almost get ripped off. We slip to the side and the door got a small dent where the mirror rested on the wall. I am telling you I was sweating everytime we scraped, bottomed out, and watched other hummers get tore up. Ron, you are a psycho with your hummer but you at least keep it real with a true off road machine.

indeed the trip was fun. I wish we could get some more steadi guys and gals out with their trucks. It was a beatuful day yesterday, and I much prefer this to sitting in a bar talking shop...enough of the steadi talk -- let's get out and enjoy life!

The trail was pretty gnarly, I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mint some brushrake or mild rock-rash. Here's a picture of a fun moment -- you can barely see BJ and I in the truck wondering where my side mirror went!

looks like I'm running some gnarly trails near Big Bear Sat May 7th if any passengers are interested -- I will most likely have a seat or two and a few beers available. No shop talk alowed.

The "John Bull" trail is about as close to the Rubicon we So. Cal. folks can get. I'm with a small group of hummers that move pretty fast (as long as we have no breakage or RPG's shot at us) so it should be fun. There will certainly be carnage.

last month, Jeff Clark and I were at Glamis -- I'd like to get back there in the not too distant future. Maybe John Hankammer and Greg Bubb can bring the bikes and Dan Stilling and Eric Fletcher can air drop beer and food to us from their planes. Larry's a pilot too, he could fly in and tell camp fire stories of great moves, near disasters and beloved uncle Teddy (my favorite topic of steadicam yarns of old). We need to get Ozzie Silvera out here -- he has a super cool Land Rover. Dan A, bring the suburban. I'll stop now before things get out of hand.

Hey man, you're nuts!! haha great!

Just give me the coordinates and I'll be droping whatever you want!! as long as it's "safe"!!!

Have a blast, maybe I'll do a few fly by's!!

Dan

I'll either drop beer via avion or ride with John H. and Gregg B. w/ my KTM...

or... I'd be okay with on of those seats, Ron... if one's available!

My picture will be finished by then, and I will be around 'til May 14th when I start the next one.

hey Dan,

no camping, just carnage. We'll definately have to hit the trails together outside of this group for now. We should do the Lockwood/Miller Jeep trail sometime soon. It starts at Hungry Valley svra (also fun to play in) which is not too far from us -- about 50 mi.

As far as the trip on May 7th, I think Jim Bartel is going, Anthony you're welcome to ride along -- Dan, interested?
