One more thing: look at the LOW MODE kit they advertise and look at the pictures,

Very convenient, the monitor at the same height and place as where you want to put your hand on the gimbal.......

Also the monitor is between de operator and the post, once you pick up the rig.

Don´t be fooled by the rig on the docking stand, that´s not how you can operate it.

In fact, you cannot operate it at all, but that was clear from the start!

Gosh, the total lack of knowledge they show really pisses me off

Relax----Relax----

-But yes the man on the photos is holding the "steadi" like its a farmer tool, maby he was using it in the corn fields :P If you run fast thrug the corn fields, then maby you can cut the corn like a bug farmer machine? (Thats the way Basson started as a farmer tool)..

I've had a Basson rig for three years now, and I will admit, it's had it's problems ... here they all are lol:

Balance problem : turn it 180 and watch it fall forward

Gimbal : rubber seal sticks and causes sled to shake, took me ages to suss that one out

Sled : the top and bottom parts of the sled are cut slanted and the bolts strip the threads inside

The Yoke : the hole that joins the arm connector isn't straight - causes balance problems

The Arm : you're gonna love this : it snapped, a weld on the elbow snapped, dropping my camera (managed to catch it)

The Arm (again) : when running, the arm bangs together, creates some incredible shock on the camera, literally impossible to run and get it smooth

The Monitor : had to get this fixed, the power connector broke

The Vest : screw heads cut t-shirts and tops, I have plenty with air holes now!

That's just a few of the problems I've had with mine ... I know of one other person who the arm broke on, I contacted Basson and they send me new parts free of charge, and I'm glad to say are still working 100% well, and the balance problem has been solved.

All in all, yes it's a cheap rig, and can be argued that it's cheaply made. But it does do the job, I can vouch for that, just bog standard shots come out smoothly.

The arm handles weight quite well, my current camera weighs in at 9.6 kilos, on the Basson rig, that's around half of the tension adjusters, so still some give ... but I'm still nervous of it dropping!

I'm so glad that I'm moving to a Steadicam, the real, genuine piece of kit.

....just thought I'd share my experience with Basson and their products.

Oh.

My.

God.

There's a difference between homage and frottage. I think we've just been shown a prime example of one of the two.

It is depressing to me, because the name Steadicam implies an extraordinarily high level of precision machining, design acumen and serious thought. People are buying devices like this one, thinking they are going to be operating a Steadicam.

They are not.

When one fights ones own gear on a daily basis, one never gets out of the starting gate. How heartbreaking to find this out too late.......

No Peter,

The Name Steadicam is now like Xerox or Kleenex, it's a discriptor of an assemblage of key componets (Post, Gimbal, Top Stage, battery mount, monitor and arm) that isolates vibrations.

Nothing more.

-soft smile- We will have to agree to disagree, Eric.

That's okay, not everyone is supposed to always agree and be in lock-step. I don't wish to turn this thread into a firefight, so I'll back away from the obvious debate your post could elicit.

Peace,

Peter

Hi Johan,

I feel like I have to post here, as a previous Basson owner.

I have to admit for the price, it did do well, yeah it's cheaper components but the arm I got with it would have held a 35mm easily.

I also have a friend who bought one and with some modifications has made an awesome rig - by default they know nothing about dynamic balance, but nothing a little modding can't put right.

The one thing I will say is that myself and a couple of other people have had the arm fail - the elbow weld snapped, I managed to catch mine thankfully, I'm not sure what happened with the others.

For the price, they're a fairly decent rig, and I can even throw you some video to prove this ... operator experience was minor so operating can't be taken into account, but it did push out some nice smooth footage.

Just thought I'd post my 2 cents.

Jason

PS ... I now own a Provid - by choice!
