Using the dreaded 5D on a job. I have the Blackmagic HDSDI converter in line, Cinetronic monitor, Boxx meridian xmitter.

When, I roll the camera the image disappears. If I remember correctly there's a fix for this.........isnt there?

It should come back after a second or two. The 5d mark 2 cant handle outputting HD and recording at the same time so it switches the output to SD forcing everything connected to reacquire the signal.

Only ways to stop this are to use a different camera (5d mark 3 and 7d dont do this) or install the magic lantern firmware hack and set it to always output SD

Actually if the Black Magic is newer version, you have to downgrade the firmware to use with the 5D MKII. It should take about 4 seconds for the image to return once the camera rolls.

I have a brand new blackmagic battery model and it worked just fine out of the box (just have to wait a few seconds for the image to return)

A data point: I have a first generation Blackmagic Hyperdeck Shuttle and have tried to use it as a HDMI to HD-SDI converter with the 5D Mk2 and Canon 60D. It does not work...it can't handle the switchover to the downconverted output when recording. My BM HDMI to HD-SDI mini-converter handles it fine. BM support basically shrugged their shoulders...said that the Canon is not sending a handshake signal when the HDMI downshift happens...the mini-converter can recover but the Hyperdeck can't.

Both units work fine with the 5Dmk3.

"I actually just use the AV output of the 5D's and deal with the composite SD image. Never cuts out while rolling the camera, never had a headache. "

William, where is the av output? I only see headphone, usb, and hdmi.

It comes out of the usb-looking port. And a cable like this: http://bit.ly/18EifgL

Tracked down the USB to RCA break out cable. Couldn't find it anywhere for sale in stores so i ended up borrowing one from a friend who has a Canon 1 DX. Got to the shoot and cable did not fit because the 5D I was using had a micro mini to RCA breakout connector. Maybe the later Mark II models changed to USB. Turns out there was a micro mini buried in the case at the bottom. Hooked it up and it worked great. No HD on my monitor, but I really didn't need to see HD anyway.

I have a job coming up and its with a 5D Mark 3. When using the small USB port (talked about in the above threads) is that a HD signal or SD? I have a TB6 and want to know if I need a down converter? I have used the Mark 2, with the mini jack and like how I don't have to use a down converter.

Thanks

Justin
