Zoom for ENG lenses?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I looking to buy a zoom demand for use manly with Canon Eng Broadcast Lenses. HJ11/14 and J11 mostly

I have been looking at G-Zoom custom edition because of focus capabilities. But it dose not work with new Bartech Digi Receiver!

or The BeBob Zoe ENG.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Timh,

On my systems I use the Bebob Zoe ENG-12, and carry the 12 to 8 adapter cable., and underneath I have the small BFD manual focus control box attached to the underside of the gimbal arm.

From my understanding, you cannot manually control any digital receiver as of yet, so you'll have to keep a BFD analog receiver for your live jobs.

Another way to go is the Stanton Steadicam Zoom and Focus unit. $2095 complete, Comes with lens motor, bracket, cable, hand controller and adapters to mount on your gimbal. It's powered by a 2 pin connector. If you have a top control box ( Junction) that uses another type or style of connector, just Snip, Strip, and Solder 2 cables to the correct connector and your set.

I´ve used the G-zoom on all Norway´s got talent live shows this fall. Lovely setup with a Sony HDC-P1 camera with a Vislink L1500 transmitter and a full servo Canon HJ14. It´s the best zoom/focus controller I´ve ever owned (after wearing out 5 Zoes), and yes..the lens will need internal zoom and focus servos. Most OB companies have such lenses though.

The only thing I don´t like about the G-zoom is the green rec start/stop button on video jobs. It´s way too easy to hit by mistake mid shot, possibly stopping the camera before the action is over. It should be placed somewhere else or be a more rigid button, or both :)

All in all, it´s great for live work when you can´t get your own focus puller in the budget.

I'm with Paal. I've put it through the paces on daily live work over the last 3 years. I use it on a Canon HJ11ex4.7 digital wide angle lens that has both zoom and focus servos. I like the green Rec Start/Stop button, I program my digital lenses to use it for Return Video on tethered shows. I've also used it on Canon and Fuji lenses WITHOUT a focus servo, and my analog BFD works great. It's handy to have that analog BFD around!
