Premium Members Pascal Combes-Knoke Posted December 17, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 17, 2012 I need follow focus for my new flyer LE. Considering im on a student budget should I still only consider bartech as an option? If I buy a used BFF what should I expect to pay? I found a Bartec handset and receiver and Heden M26P motor for $2500 I feel like thats a good deal but i dont have a n experienced perspective. Lastly, should I be worried about a used unit without warranty or are BFFs pretty invincible? Thanks in advance!
Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted December 17, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 17, 2012 Hey Pascal, $2500 is a great price for that setup and you'll probably have it longer than the rest of your kit if it's in good condition. Bartechs are pretty much indestructable and if you do happen to break it some how, Jim's customer service is second to none. Definatly jump on that offer. Just be sure you have the right cables and back ups for those cables! You can make your own(like I do), but you have to per pretty handy with a soldering iron to make it and getting the pin outs right can sometimes be a chore. You can also buy pre made cables from a bunch of other people. Terry West is well known for making great cables and having great customer service. Good luck! Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted December 17, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted December 17, 2012 Hi Pascal A BFD system is a great brand and something which you will not need to upgrade for a long long time .$2500 is a fare price for this system with a M26p Heden motor . As to warranty etc When I first started all of my kit was 2nd hand .The most important thing to do is what ever you are buying I get the seller to send the system back to the maker(or reseller ) of the item and get them to go over the system (Yes there would probably be a fee for their time but MONEY well spent ) Or it you know a operator who could check it out for you would also be a good start. I have had BFD's systems since 2000 (s/n 23 and many others ) and it still works great . If the system came with a M1 motor you would be looking at around $3K to $3.5K and more depending on what cables and other brackets etc etc $4K-$4500K When you think Well this is an investment in my future and brands like BFD's hold there value this will be money well spent . Good luck Louis Puli
Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted December 17, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 17, 2012 I agree. The Bartech quality and service are great. And going 2nd hand is a great way to start building your kit.... Once you have gained lots of experience, and you know exactly what is going to work for you, then you might want to purchase new gear, although much of mine is from other operators (Daniel Sauve/Klaassen vest # 19).
