Hey Everybody,

This comming Saturday May 30th I am having a steadicam guild AR demo at my house . Of course Beer will be present and a hot grill if anybody wants to cook something (bring your own meat). I talked to Howard Smith and David Grove and we all agreed to have the gathering at 6 P.M. So I hope to see everybody at my crib, bring whatever you want to drink or eat and we will rock and roll! Here is the location and directions.

18202 Wakecrest Dr.

Malibu, Ca. 90265

Basically just take the 10 freeway to the PCH. You will pass the palisades and it is not too far from there. Keep going on the pch until you hit Coastline Dr. At Coastline Dr. make a right. Follow Coastline until you hit Castlerock. Turn right at Castlerock and then a immediate right on Wakecrest. My house is right up the hill on the right.

If anybody needs to get ahold of me you can call my cell at 323-868-7330. I am going to be working nights so it is best if you call me on my way to work around 5 P.M. I am shooting at Sable so I will have no cell reception. Thats it! Hope to see you crazy people this next Saturday.

Hey Everyone,

I look forward to Saturday the 30th. Sounds like a lot of fun. Hey BJ, you mean April 30th not May right? Let us know either way. Anyway, I plan on bringing my AR just to make sure there is enough to go around. My problem is that I don't own a weight cage with a camcorder. If someone would bring one I will certainly bring my AR.

And Howard, if you read this, will you bring your new follow focus. I'd love to take another look at it.

All the Best,

Chad Persons

Hi Guys

First - thank you so much BJ - what a place, the perfect demo place for the AR - windy with a wonderful 180 deg ocean view. We got some stunning shots.

Thank you also all the guys who came down and had a play and a beer or two.

Very much enjoyed it and hope to do it again soon.

Take care

many thanks again BJ.

Howard

had a nice time catching up with old friends and checking out some cool gear. First things first -- BJ, your view sucks...at least from my house I can see the 101 frwy. Eric, I'd like to race you for pinks (but I get to pick where). Chad, sorry some dirt from my truck may have drifted onto your car. Shannon, thanks for letting BJ stay up late and geek-out with us.

The equipment was very cool, and everyone was appropriately buzzed. I knew enough alcohol had been consumed when BJ pulled out his fully auto airsoft rifle and AR-15 and John Meyers was racing Eric's Audi up and down Pacific Coast Hwy (which, according to John Hankammer, was like the Delorean in Back to the Future dissapearing with a trail of flames behind it). Anyone have any photos to add?

thanks again all for a good time

Where would the LA Steadicam contingent be without fossil fuels? (guess we'll find out in a few years). I have to know, Ron--exactly how much does it cost to fill up your Hummer these days? I should talk--my A6 is a thirsty beast in its own right.

At least Dave Chameides is laughing all the way to the frying pan...he's driving a van that he has converted to run on cooking oil. No, I'm not kidding.

well Charles...it's a 42 gal tank (that hurts) but thank god it's not my daily driver. I drive it maybe 4 or 5 days a month. I should really talk to him and see where he gets his fuel/oil/bio-diesel he doesn't make it himself does he? looking forward to hanging out later this week.

Eric, with a 0 to 60 of 20 seconds I may need a bigger head start!

Hello Fellas...

So.... what did you guys think to the AR?

Any ideas to how its going to engage itself into industry life??

Any body got any ideas for shots that could be staged for it?

Also, anybody that tried the 'Alien', how do you feel about the AR? pros? cons?

Since its arrival iinto the public arena, I've been suprised that there has been no real discussion about the practicalities of its use!! especially after all the pre-mutterings!!

Hi Chris

the Alien sounds fantastic and I hope it opens up new ground in Steadicam and is a great success.

However after years of cloak and dagger publicity I find it strange that you expect people to jump in and appraise the kit. Still no photos or real information anywhere I can see ?

If your question is aimed at the group who had the meeting with the AR on the 30th then maybe talk to them direct, although I would like to hear their views.

Seriously why is there still no pictures or information ?

Will you have it in the London area anytime in the near future ? I would love to check it out.

A few simple questions can you put a Sony 790/750/570 on it ? any thoughts on triax/biax type use ?

Do you see any uses for the kit outside of mainstream Hollywood production.

Why are you covered in paint bye the way ?

Sorry for all the questions

Hope you are well and keeping busy

Regards

Joe McNally

Yo !!!!!

I had a blast at the guild meeting. Thank you all for comming out to my crib and kickin back some brews. Thank you Howard for doing the demo at my house. The AR is really a cool piece of equipment to play with. I could not believe some of the crazy shots we could do over my balcony (with the view that sucks). Ron, Shannon loves your H1 more than me you bastard!!!!!! Now I have to buy one. Eric, your car was the fastest thing on earth. I swear to god my head hit the back of the seat when John hit the gas like Back To The Future. It was killer!!!! I did not take any pictures of the AR sorry guys. We all did the demo and then drank and shot BB guns. We gotta do it again sometime. Again, thanks everybody for kickin it at my house.

BJ

P.S. Joe that is not me covered in paint, it is a zombie from a film I worked on.
