Hi all,

I got tired of seeing my name in the title --

if anyone wants to come this Saturday the 30th (early departure) I'll be hitting some trails behind Big Bear and back to Hollywood by 4/4:30-ish. Then off to BJ's suare' in Malibu. Let me know.

With any luck (and more work) this will be BJ in about 6 months:

John Hankammer and I had a nice time yesterday near Big Bear. The trail next weekend will certainly be much tougher. I think Jim Bartel, Anthony Hardwick, and Greg Code were interested in going? I'll give you guys a ring this week.

we really need to get a group of ops with dirt bikes and jeeps/trucks together for some fun in Hungry Valley. It's only 60 miles north of Los Angeles. We could set up a "camp" (ie: ice chests full of food and tasty beverage) to use as a base one could return to periodically for R and R. We could sing songs by the fire, tell ghost stories, etc... Unfortunately there's no runway for the aviators and Eric might get high centered in his Audi. I met John Hankammer and Greg Bubb there last year with their bikes. It was alot of fun, and we didn't even talk shop once!

John tells me that Anthony has a pretty serious bike -- maybe Dakar next year?!

here's a picture John took yesterday

if I don't break my truck Saturday, maybe Sunday we could cruise up for an hour or so of fun?  Anthony? John? Greg? Colin?

Ron, I wish I could join you! It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I will DEFINITELY be in for a future outing. At the moment I am in the London Heathrow Airport heading to Copenhagen for a few days. I won't be back until Monday.

Ah well, have fun and take pics.

As for my bike... it's capable of going places that scare me.

BTW, has anyone seen "Dust To Glory," a documentary film about the Baja 1000 race? An A.C. friend of mine, Jaime Felz worked on it, and she appears in the credit sequence footage. It was a pretty cool movie if you're into off road bikes or trucks.

Had a great trip this past Saturday. Jim Bartel, Greg Code and Dan Ayers rode along on the John Bull trail near Big Bear (the hardest trail I've hit yet). There was plenty of carnage and paint loss. Here are a few snapshots.

Have no doubt about it, Mr. Baldwin clanks when he walks.

Seriously, if someone had pointed out the trails we went up and down and told me that they we traversable by 3 ton wheeled vehicles, after the laughter stopped my first question would be "Are you high?". Or that people would actually put $100,000 vehicles through this kind of abuse. One guy literally snapped an entire wheel clean off! A few hours and some spare parts later he drove out.

Insane? Without a doubt. Fun? Absolutely!

there are dozens of gnarly trails that I've seen bikes on -- some bad wrecks too. I made a wrong turn on my way down to get parts for the guy who lost a wheel (ball-joint failed) and ended up on a super narrow bike trail. We had to back up a few hundred yards and then do a 40 point turn. Here's a picture of the carnage Jim was talking about.

we should get a group together and go to Gorman. A few bikes...a few trucks...a few ice chests...and no steadi-talk! It was pretty cool hanging with Jim, Dan and Greg last weekend...I think we talked shop for maybe 1 hour of our 15 hr day (and much of that was funny Steve Byro stories).

There must be at least a few of the 1000 or so LA based steadi-ops that have dirt bikes or jeeps/suv's that might like to venture outside of a soundstage? Maybe BJ will actually bring his V-Cross and get it dirty! (No weapons allowed).
