Hi all;

Just thought it would be neat to see what people do to voluteer in their world.

I do some Coast Guard Auxilliary volunteering.

I get boating classes for free and can learn about boating and I get to hang out on boats that I don't have or couldn't afford to own. You also get to work with active duty Coast Guard folks who are really dedicated guys/women.

I don't do a ton but its interesting.

in all seriousness...I am either working or chasing my son around, but would love to do something like this besides poisoning people's minds with tv for a change. There's no feeling like one gets when helping others out

Edit -- almost forgot about this!

One thing I haven't been able to do for a few yrs that was a lot of fun (and hard work) was working with the forrest service. The group I used to offroad with were often called in to remove trees and clear trails in the Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead areas after fires and big storms. We were also called to pull abandoned vehicles off trails and out if ravines. We had big trucks/winches/insanity. We also maintained a trail near Lake Silverwood.

What a great thread! It's wonderful to hear of all the brilliant volunteering this community is involved in around the world!

Apart from very local events & village projects, I owe a lot of who I am to the Scout Movement, both as a participant and latterly as Leader.

At least once a week I'm helping to find exciting, interesting & dare I say mildly educational things for my group to do, as well as volunteering at larger events & international camps across Europe. Needless to say, I always have an HD camera with me, & sometimes even a rig!

Volunteerism is a big part of our family and our small Community of a few thousand. I threw my hat in the ring last year and became an elected official here. So now I am involved with most of the volunteer organizations on our island trying to move things forward in community development. Big focus being affordable housing, seniors care and having the planning in place so we can become more self-sufficient. Transportation, housing and living costs continue to go up here but incomes are not. It is going to require us to provide more for ourselves rather than rely on amenities on the Mainland.

Am a volunteer soccer coach at a high school.... And supports a few kids who aren't well off and i believe giving back to society is a good thing.... It de-stresses me and its a joy to watch kids eyes light up everytime u give away a soccer cleat to not well off students.... And what goes around comes around and karma always right.... :)
