Premium Members JensSchroeder Posted March 31, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2013 Hello everyone, I am looking for a good and relatively lightweight case solution for my backmount vest. Anybody has a good idea for a good case etc.? Thanks in advance for your oppinions. Cheers, jens
Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted March 31, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2013 I have used a rubber maid action packer for many years. Very inexpensive and very light weight. They tend to fall apart after about 3 years. I currently have a Pelican, I think its the 1630 (it's on the camera truck right now so I'm not) that holds both my vest and arm. It is NOT light and is pretty cumbersome, but it does protect the investment.
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted March 31, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2013 When I still had my original DSD Vest I had trouble finding a case that would actually fit my vest. I tried the Pelican 0350, but that turned out to be to much case for it... I ended up designing and making a custom ATA case. ( http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=10318 , Post #13, it's the case number 1) It also housed the Arm, which made it a little unwieldily ... http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=228&page=3 (Post #41) Later when Walter upgraded my vest to the Klassen classic and I was able to take the front off separately, it actually fit into a standard 1650... but it was basically stripped to it's barebones... Now i am back again to a custom ATA case that also doubles as my on set ready case. Even the Action packer is way to large and you end up putting all kinds of crap into it until it's in my opinion unmanageable. There is just no case off the shelf available that protects the vest but is at the same time small enough to not be considered "Gynormas"... If you ever find one I am sure they will erect a monument in your name... or maybe not. Fly Safe! Erwin
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted March 31, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2013 I've been traveling with my original Klassen soft case for my vest for over 8 years, over 200 flights, europe and back, Germany and back, Argentina and back, no issues ever. Still the same bag. It has some slight rips, from when I backed up on it with my car and dragged it a few feet, but that's about it. Just returned from Italy with it, never needed anything else. I keep the back mounted arm, in it's leather sleeve, and lay it in the vest, and keep the accesories leather bag with my front mount and extra straps, screws, in one of my other cases, so there are less things in the bag and keeps it lighter, which lessens the stress on the one carry handle. All good. Ozzie
Premium Members Dave Isern Posted April 3, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 3, 2013 The Flyer softcase works well as a case for Klassen vests if you take the drop/sidearm off. Lightweight for shipping/flying too. Definitely durable enough. Dave Isern www.daveisern.com
