New PRO Cine Live Sled added to my system!!!

I was not particularly in the market for a second sled but as soon as I laid eyes on the prototype about three weeks ago it was a done deal. I have to say I was and am the most excited about the new PRO Cine Live sled as I was for any of my four previous rigs.

 

First, I'm not giving up my XCS Ultimate 2. Love it! I bought the PRO Cine Live because it's not only perfect for live work but it's also 100% capable of flying a full-on Alexa or film camera and AKS with very very little if any compromise and perfect as well for smaller digital cinema packages. Oh, and it weighs 10 lbs less than my XCS Ultimate. Ten pounds less means less fatigue, less stress on joints and I still have a rig that makes no excuses.

 

100% designed, manufactured and assembled in the USA, actually right here in LA.

 

It's hard to say what the best features are as there are so many:

 

Price: $19,0042 USD

Full Modular system compatible with all existing PRO components

Fully compatible with standard Tiffen cabling and most of the XCS cabling. Tiffen owners don't have to change anything.

Dual HD lines plus an analog line are standard

Two full size Lemo 12/24v camera power connectors on the top stage and one on the bottom stage

Same gun barrel drilled telescoping center post as all PRO sleds (non telescoping option)

More AKS power options than you can possibly need: 2 Lemo three pins, Lemo four pins, Hirose four pins, tally and even more on the bottom stage.

Hirose four pin power / video connectors top and bottom.

Two different on-board recorder options

Two P-Taps built INTO the rig. Sweet!

New long handle for the gimbal.

8 lbs +/-

Full PRO Gimbal

Three battery mounts

DB 2

Telescoping monitor bracket

No doubt I forgot some things but it's late and I want to post this before I pass out.

 

Even if you bought this sled, the Atlas arm w/cans and a PRO vest all separately you're only around $36,000 +/-. I didn't need it as a package but I'm pretty sure Jack is offering a package for all three at around $32,000'ish. Don't hold me to those prices but that's what I remember approximately.

 

What really stuck out to me is that the nearest live type rig to this from anyone else is the Tiffen Shadow at $26k for just the sled and frankly there's no comparison when I was looking at a fully modular upgradable system versus a closed system. That comparison didn't even include all the power / video options that are standard on the PRO Cine Live and not on the Shadow.

 

Frankly if this rig had of been around when I first started I'd have not likely needed to go through at least three rigs that couldn't grow with me. This one can be modularly upgraded as you need and can afford it without having to buy a completely new sled.

 

There's a quick photo below but I'm sure Jack will have more info out on it ASAP.

 

Currently I'm on injured status from a bad fall while operating but I'll be demoing lenses at the Angenieux booth in Central Hall C6020 next week during NAB. The rig will be there and built up and my Steadicam Tech Alex White will be doing the flying while I'm doing the talking.

 

Also, PLEASE respect that I am there representing Angenieux only, not there doing rig demos. Please come by and see the fine optics we have to show, especially the new 55-152mm Anamorphic Compact Optimo Zoom. Check out the rig all you want but again please save your questions about it for Jack, Eric or John Perry.

 

Speaking of, Jack, Chad, Tommy, Eric and especially John Perry put a tremendous amount of thought into the design of this sled. Those guys get the credit... I just happened to get the first one off the production line!

Did that $19k price include the transvideo monitor? If so that is an amazing price for the sled. I'd love to see one. Anybody in NYC planing on getting it???

No it does not, but neither does the shadow in its $26,000 price. You could buy a monitor for the cine live and still be less expensive than the shadow....

A non-motorized Shadow or Shadow-V system is listed at $45K. It includes the sled with the artificial horizon, integral tilt head, thin structural base with dovetail, telescoping post, return monitor mount, monitor with FLG, Hill Dock, G-70X arm, U2 vest, and a few accessories.

 

Subtract the arm and vest (18.8K and 5K) and you’re at 21.2K. Knock off the Hill bracket and the monitor (although it’s a relatively inexpensive one) and you’re under 20K.

 

Re modularity. Shadow has your choice of monitors, battery systems, and the motorized stage, 1 or 2 motors….

I agree Shadow looks a great deal too. I like the new stage concept with shorter nose and all the adds that Tiffen stages comes with. But about modularity: Is possible to make future modifications on it (in the electronics for instance, as adding some different outputs as time changes and new connectors appears, etc)

The price was figured by getting a price quote from Tiffen (yes in writing, I have a copy of the quote form)

 

RE: modularity, you and the rest of the world have two totally different concepts of modularity. In the PRO/XCS World it means you can remove and replace things like the upper junction box, center post, gimbal, lower electronics housing, or battery rack in less than 30 seconds, not add on things like stage motors. Want to fly a fixed post for live work and a telescoping post for "film" jobs you can and it takes 30 seconds, not a trip back to the factory

Robert, the Live looks like an awesome sled. What would be the downside to buying this sled over other pro setups? I don't do any live work, but the feature set seems to be great at everything.

From today forward the upper j box and lower j box are the cine live, it's the core components to the pro system, you now buy those, and then select which post, donkey box, gimbal mount, monitor, monitor arm and battery rack works for you, knowing that you can mix and match or upgrade as jobs or cash requires
