Dear folks at Paralinx,

Get to the shop quickly, get to work on making the Tomahawk in mass quantities. Make it as small as possible

Accept 9-28V, maybe even a circuit to prevent reverse polarity

Both SDI and HDMI outputs which both work at the same time,

add some 3/8-16 and 1/4-20 threaded holes on at least 2 sides.

Then call me with a price so you can get my Address for shipment.

Thanks,

Ozzie

I asked them about this at NAB - they don't have official specs on it yet, but they did say they were aiming for later this year, perhaps fall for a release. I'm not sure they know the performance specs yet either, but I think they're shooting for around 600ft range? This could all change, and is pretty speculative at this point, but they're working on it.

They also had a prototype for an SDI input dock, essentially. Dock the arrow TX into it, it allows HDSDI in - no loop-through at this point. And it sounds like it's going to beat the comp. for pricing - but again, speculation at this point. It was enough to sell me on the Arrow+ though.

The Tomahawk receiver is set to be released late summer or early fall. The receiver used with the existing transmitter will get you over 600 ft. The tomahawk transmitter will be released soon after and allow over 1,200 ft range. Pricing will be announced in the next couple of months.

Vaporware v1.0 ;-)

When manufacturers are projecting out 6-9 months anything could happen or not.

Sounds promising but I've grow less tolerant over the years of manufacturers who over promise and under deliver.

I can't plan and run my business on the "hope to / plan to" of manufacturers.

That's a nice Gen 2 Cinetronic monitor on your rig, Robert. When was that originally projected for release? August 2011? ;)

I have a lot of faith in Dan, Greg and the guys at Paralinx, and that's just as a satisfied customer and colleague, not someone with any vested interest in their success. I'd rather they tease everyone with products they're working on and show off physical, functional versions at NAB or CineGear.

Sure, they could have primed, packaged and hastily delivered a half-cocked product, but then they'd be liable for all sorts of last minute changes, redesigns and "gratis upgrades" like... saaaay... removing a useless lithium ion battery from the transmitter, dealing with overheating issues, or addressing quality control failures for 2-pin LEMO power connectors.

BTW, rumor has it Teradek is looking into making their own version of the Tomahawk.

You're right Will and I figured somwone would bust my balls on that! What are friends for! My crazy monitor woes go back even further by about 18 mos before that with countless hours and six months personally on the Nebtek monitor project.

I suspect Chris / Cinetronic will be less likely to announce a new monitor product in the future until they have their vendor / programmer side nailed down. To their credit they've stuck with it though and have invested a lot to keep it alive and keep day jobs to pay the bills.

Has it been worth the wait? Yes, absolutely 100%. The monitor rocks. I'm not particularly hung up on lots of options but I know they are trying to make something based on a wide range of operator input and needs.

Having a personal relationship with them and a very specialized high performance product not available elsewhere has made the wait tolerable albeit painful sometimes. With all the delays, the original and the new Gen 2 are still the best daylight viewable color HD monitors I have seen yet. Period, ever. I still own a great Transvideo SBL 6" that set me back about $8500 or so as well.

The best HD transmitter I've used to-date under $20k is still the Boxx. My CamWave is fine but pales in comparison. Then again it's 15% the cost of the Boxx as is the Teradek Bolt.

Having met Mike from Teradek face to face, asking him all the tough questions and reading his posts here as well, my confidence is very high that they will do well if they keep their focus. Until I see something better in the under $20k range the Boxx will be my gold standard as is the Cinetronic for color HD sunlight viewing. I'm just not willing to part with $18k for an HD transmitter at this time.

Thanks!

Robert

Considering the Tomahawk is just a reference design purchased from Amimon, I am sure many other companies will buy the same board from them, and slap their name on it.

Robert and Chris - you are welcome to speculate on your own, however if you knew the Paralinx story I doubt you would be so dismissive.

To get where I am now I spent 5 years of blood, sweat, and tears focusing on affordable wireless HD for motion picture camera use. Why? Because I am a cinematographer, and I don't like directors touching me like I'm a human pan-tilt head.

I doubt you hand-make the panel in the cine tronic monitor, and I also doubt you created the LSI used to run it. Maybe I'm wrong and you are some kind of super star electronics genius that accodentally got involved in motion pictures. If that's the case you should probably be designing stuff for Arri, Pace Cameron, or TV Logic.

Or maybe you are more like me.

The kind of person who cannot be tamed.

See, No Man is my boss. I don't answer to anyone else. I'm the founder of Paralinx, and I do this because I care about the capabilities it gives people. A nice side effect would be money - but it happens I haven't even taken a dollar home from this. I do it because I love it.

I hope you can say that you consistently love what you do.

As you know, we have vendors, and a nice partner in the name of Amimon - who is the only company in the world offering latency free HD video modem chipsets worth the silicon they are made of. You have no idea what goes into my designs, nor the trouble I had to go through to be able to make them. So, I would respectfully ask you to apologize for your indiscretion.

If not, get back to me after you have created your own affordable wireless HD solution for motion picture use. Maybe I'll quit doing this, focus on shooting, and buy yours instead.

Respectfully,

Dan Kanes
