Sandro Galv
I saw The Omega in the last CINE GEAR. It is amazing...but is it possible to use with anthers sleds?
Premium Members Dustin Heindl Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 You can use it on any sled. The thing you have to mcguiver a little is how the monitor mounts, because you have to use their mounting bracket so your monitor will always stay correctly oriented when spinning the rig around. If you have any questions let me know, I don't check this forum too often. Dustinheindl@gmail.com
Premium Members Thomas English Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 Yeah you can use it on any sled, that's the general idea. Speak to ash at Mkv for more. Currently people are using on xcs which is 2in post and gimble. I'll be testing it soon on the pro. When it comes to the actual electronics and omega brain. Wonderful! Works an absolute treat. Lots more functionality and the things I didn't like about the previous version have been more than fixed. Ash at Mkv is a top bloke. The service is very good. Everyone has been going on about this.
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 Correct if I'm wrong. I thought the PRO Gimbal is not engineered to go from "regular" into "low mode" smoothly?
Premium Members Shawn Wang Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 another confusion here. I thought the Omega AR is designed specifically for 2" 4 stage posts ? otherwise its not super low to super high right ? thus the only choice is XCS 2" gimbal ? we need some clarification here ~
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 The a/r - omega cage adds a fair bit of weight up top as well as raising the camera a bit so I'm not sure how one could balance it on a short sled such as a Pro with a standard post (unless ya pile on batteries!?). It's only a 9 or 10 inch post extension. Most of the pics I see with the ar the sled is pretty long...even with smaller/lighter cameras. I remember Will Arnot really tweaked his XCS sled and rearranged the aks to be as short as possible. That was the last time I saw an a/r on a sled that was shorter than Manure Bol My sled's not in front of me, but there is a small amount of play in the Pro gimbal resulting in a little "clunk" when inverting the sled slowly. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 4, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 Haha...new pH...f'n spell check! Manure bols aren't as long as Manutes.
Premium Members Benjamin Treplin Posted January 4, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Working with a "short" post and the AR is possible and so far I only used my XCS super-post three times. Frankly operating that beast with a super-post extended makes it almost impossible to pan in mid-mode, apart trying not to catch and drag every flag and stand available across the set. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 4, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 Looks like the cage raises the camera higher than I thought. Nice setup and great to see it on a different sled
Premium Members Benjamin Treplin Posted January 4, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 My setup has the new omega electronics but still down at the bottum of the sled. The final Omega will raise the camera even further. I'm not sure, about an inch maybe. The cage will get a new base plate with all electronics inside.
