Monitor Hood/Shade

For a couple years now I've been using the Nebtek 7" Solar HD as my primary monitor, and I've just home made a sun shade for it.

But I think it's time to get a proper 3 sided (top and both sides) sunshade/hoodman (can either velcro on or have a strap).

 

I've called Nebtek but they don't make one.

Any ideas of where I can get one for this monitor.

You add bright direct sun to any monitor and the brightness and your view of and from it will diminish, and you will surely get some level of a nice reflected

image of the big ball in the sky too if you are at the worst angle for your shot.

Cinetronic, TB-6, all of them. Sure they are "sunlight viewable" and I understand that the Cinetronic is all around exceptional and I will most likely own one in the future, once they are proven a bit more, (hey Chris, good to hear you are doing well and congrats on your monitor, it's been what, 15+ years since we've seen each other?) but no manufacturer will claim you can see the image as well in bright direct sun as you can when the screen is in the shade.

 

For that reason, no matter what monitor one uses, you will see the image better and brighter when it's shaded, and that's why I use one on my monitors

when outside and have direct sun hitting the monitor (and it's not windy).

 

I just figured after nearly 3 years with the Nebtek and using a home made sun shade, it was time to actually find one that is a bit more polished. :)

to be honest, I use my nebtek maybe 85% of the time, saving my tb6 for the really bright exteriors. Never used a shade on my tb6...but the nebtek needs one. I have just made them outta coroplast but wind always being an issue (and grips that can't seem to be able to figure out where the wind is coming from) I usually go without to help

All you need is some choroplast and some soft side velcro for your shade and a small amount of hard side for your monitor. I took my original measurements off the old PRO shade and then simply widened the center measurement for the added width of my TB-6.

 

EDIT: I also trimmed the operating-side verical shade (left side of monitor for us goofy ops) so that I had a slightly better viewing angle. One time I was asked to hard-side an actor and couldn't see next to nothing! Out came the razor.

I just now scored an embroidered silk corsette from Jumbos...perfect sun shade material. It'll be enough material for at least a half dozen monitors. Let me know and I'll put you on the waiting list.

I have done the same thing, I will swap to my TB6 if it's really bad.

And yes, of course, chloroplast is what I've made my shades out of for 14 years.

But they get a bit beat up when removed and put in the on set bag.

So I figured it was time to see if I can find a company that makes a nice one (like a hoodman, but with 3 sides instead of all 4).

I have a factory made hood on my marshall and I'm thinking of changing it to a DIY because I'm not happy with the size of the side pannels, They get in the way of me seeing the screen in some positions. The factory hood is great for normal use of the monitor, but it's not adapted to steadicam. I think the you might be better off with a custom one. IMHO
