Premium Members arielmanuelsalati Posted May 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 Hi Guys, I do own an Ultra brite 2 tiffen monitor HD and when I'm shooting with Red Scarlet or Epic the monitor can't find the signal. It goes: 'HD invalide mode' Does it is a problem on the camera settings? maybe about external signal (1080p,720p,etc...) because I haven't any issues with Alexa,Sony,etc... any advice about it? thank you Ariel www.arielsalati.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHpfuC8FHT4
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted May 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 It might be related to the true progressive signal given by the REDs versus PsF (Progressive segmented Frame http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_frame) that most monitors do. I don't use the Ultra Brite Monitor but I know the RED has issues with some monitors because of it's signal. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?82260-strange-problem-with-Epic-SDI-output
Premium Members Tom Wills Posted May 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 Try turning the camera into 720p mode instead of 1080. The Epic and Scarlet output full 1080 at 23.98 fps progressive. Very few other cameras output their signal over HDSDI as full progressive - most, especially older cameras, output their signal as PsF, which means its outputting an interlaced signal where the two interlaced segments are each half of a progressive frame. Your monitor may have been designed with PsF in mind, but in 720, signals have always been progressive, so the monitor shouldn't be thrown off by the progressive signal coming out of the Epic. Hope that helps!
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted May 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 I've had Epics burn out my 3G SDI board on my Marshall. I talked to another op who had the same problem twice. I don't know what the problem is with Epics and some monitors, but I hope that someone figures it out, and comes up with a solution. Premium Members chris bangma Posted May 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 Check to see if the Tiffen supports 3G, it most likely does not, so you will be limited to 720.

Bob Gundu
Epic does not do PsF. It is true progressive through the SDI.

Premium Members Greg McGuinness Posted August 4, 2018 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 4, 2018 Hey Folks, I realise this is an old thread, so maybe some of you have found a solution since initial posting? I was wondering if a decimator 2 would help the situation? It'd be small enough to fit onto the back of the UB2 and therefore I wouldn't need to get a new monitor. Any info would be great. Many thanks, Greg
