Premium Members matthew pearce Posted June 13, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 13, 2013 thinking about getting a pelician 1730 case for my sled/ arm/ monitor to travel in for a job with a bit of travel ( Pro two, Pro arm, cinetronic) Saw some threads about them when they came out wondering if anyone went that route? Picks please if so.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 14, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2013 just bought one...showed up today. It is HUGE! But I think it's the only one that a full sized sled (or child) can fit in without some dismantling.
Premium Members matthew pearce Posted June 14, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2013 looks like both my kids could fit in. What are you planning on putting in there? I have a bunch of 1650's but I'm hoping to consolodate down to one travel case. Pro2 sled, pro arm Flat screen monitor plus yoke that removes easily. I dont want to be breaking the sled down any more than that. This case would not need to hold any preston or wireless stuff, no batts either. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 14, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2013 I have a pro2 with Steve Fracol's base, preston mdr, pro monitor arm with 4" extension and 7" nebtek lcd. I too want something the assistants can pull out and just put on the dock. I may also be able to squeeze a Hill docking bracket the spring canister case in there as well. I want to pull the rear hinges apart so the whole lid will come off while it is on the camera truck shelf. I will have to dig up a picture of Dave Emmerich's 1650 with a pro in it -- pro3 base, preston mdr (turned backward for an extra inch of clearance out front), pro monitor bracket with 3" extension (loosened and turned to be over the battery plate), and the same monitor as me. Thought it was genius but am trying to make it stupid proof for the assistants. The less they have to do the less wear and tear or chance of something getting scrizewed up. I used to use the Sachtler monitor bracket which made life easier being collapsible but too much vibration when extended to where I like it. Maybe Alec or Afton have pictures...they both have 1730's with cinetronics on their sleds
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 15, 2013 been picking and plucking for an hour and here is a quickie fit of my sled, pro spring bag and bottle of social lubrication onto the 1730. I made the slot for the bottle big enough for a hill docking bracket but decided the booze was more important to have close at all times. Once I figure out what monitor and bracket I will stick with I'll have a custom insert made for this case. I hate the pick-n-pluck shite.
mike skipp
Looks like the cinetronic gen 2 will fit nicely but you might have to lose the kid and the bottle though. Cheers
Premium Members matthew pearce Posted June 15, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 15, 2013 certainly roomy..... i was hoping to get my arm in there as well, looks like a possibility..... did the removing lid look like an option? Premium Members Rob Vuona SOC Posted June 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 15, 2013 SKB Case I got from Innerspace cases is the same size as the 1650 but with a slight bit more inside space due to the angle of the inside of the case. Innerspace and I designed the case and it fits my sled, both monitors, Camera plate, rods, 4 batteries, allens, battery charger, power cable and Hill docking Bracket. Second case is arm, vest, stand, and cables along with a slew of other things. Two cases is pretty darn good to travel with when doing steadicam . . . . . . JM2C Custom cases make all the diference
Premium Members Joel San Juan Posted June 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 15, 2013 Hope this helps. Storm Case IM2975.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 16, 2013 wow Rob...that's a lot of stuff that crams into that...you ship it like that? What are the dimensions of that case? Joel, nice set up -- but too tight for a pro2 (it would allow for less than 1" of foam on top and bottom). If one is ok with pulling pieces off and dismantling every time you put it away or build it, then there are lots of options out there. Unfortunately there are few (if any) choices between the 1650 (which is almost identical to the Storm 2975) and 1730. In my case I rarely assemble my own gear anymore so I need it to be stupid proof and well protected. I am not a fan of the size of the 1730, but after years of taking stuff off/re-assembling for multiple locations a day I have thrown in the towel! Matthew, there is room to put an arm in the 1730 on a different level than the sled if you get the custom inserts made (the pick-n-pluck stuff is temporary and sucks balls at the same time so kills two birds with one stone). The pro gen4 base and some collapsing will fit into a 1650
Premium Members JobScholtze Posted June 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 16, 2013 Ron, that post of yours looks simular to that pole in jumbo's. It took me some time, but i finally saw it. ( i didnt look long at that pole )
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 20, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2013 Job...Greg Bubb gets the credit to paying attention to pole size by using the Official Pole Dance Association's specs as a guideline for his carbon fiber post. That's why all (well, most) XCS sled users have great abs and smell like baby oil. and... I forgot to show my case "done" (until final monitor/foam insert made) and with lid off. The sled will live comfortably here for the next 9 months on a shelf in a truck...I estimate the pick-n-pluck will last at least a few weeks: and for the curious...a pro2 (Fracol base/lower plate adds 1.5") on a pelican 1650:
Premium Members John Stout Posted July 7, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 7, 2013 I do the SKB version of the 1650. Two cases. Case one has: 1. Collapsable C Stand 2. Vest broken down 3. Arm Case two has: 1. Sled 2. Monitor 3. Docking Bracket 4. Plates 5. KiPro Mini 6. Rack Rails with plate Then we have a small pelican 1520. This has a four pack and charger of batteries. Also keeps our accessory case for cables and adapters. All at 50lbs and flyable. We have a separate case for wireless video. Hope that helps.
