Where is the best place to get cables from... lowest prices, highest quality?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I recently purchased a Bartech system from Orlando on here, and very happy with the unit. I wanted to get some spare cables, and that led me to want to get spare cables for everything else I have.

I live in Los Angeles, so either a local place would be nice, or somewhere with easy shipping.

Orlando mentioned East Coast Cable, and I talked to Chris who quoted me:

a. Bartech motor cable - $150

b. P-tap power cable for the Bartech - $140

Is there anywhere you guys know of that's less expensive, but still with good quality?

I was going to look on B&H photo for the cables, but don't have the specs... 1b, 0b. Also, sometimes things get lost in translation when talking to their customer service reps.

Can anyone help?

According to Jim Bartell's website, he sells the M-One motor cables (assuming the analog) for $145. You might want to contact him?

You're really not going to find much better prices than the $150 range for 5-pin analog motor cables, since the LEMO connectors themselves cost about $39 each. $80 in the hole plus hiring a capable and reliable cables guy to solder the LEMO connectors properly is easily worth $70 in reliability and peace of mind.

Spend the money, buy 'em right, and treat them well. You'll be glad you went with a trusted name.

What Will said.

Support the people and companies who support us so they'll be there when you need them. They have to make a living too. Steadicam is not a low budget profession to get started in or to survive in.

Jim makes great cables and so does Chris. Either way you can't go wrong. I can't tell you how many times when I had Bartech systems that Jim cranked out a cable for me and got it into FedEx with a hour's notice.

Massimo,

My apologies for not having the correct info when we talked on the phone, I was driving.

I charge the same amount as Jim for M-One motor cables, $145 instead of $150. Feel free to call either of us if you need one.

Thanks

Yeah, get them at Jim's. So you can yell at him if it breaks. I just did, when i was at cinegear and visiting Eric on dexter, it was just 100 meters from Jim's house, go figure. So he repaired some stuff. I made pictures, but i will keep them for myself, untill he refuses to service me, then i will let them go :-)

Go to jim and enjoy the craftman himself
