Premium Members Benjamin Treplin Posted July 18, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 Third man enters Chris, AFAIK the seperate video circuite was introduced by PRO for one reason only, to isolate the SD video feed from bad shilded camera motors. The XCS has done this shilding with proper electronics parts. I had zero problem with camera motor interference or FF and I have flown SR2 and Arri 3 cameras. To claim that having all on one circuit is a bad idea is just misleading. There is no danger to your equipment by doing this, put aside the chance that your SD video sucks if it is not done properly. With modern film cameras and HD camera these days that kind of issues are gone for good. Selling a monitor that back feeds to ops with all kinds of rigs without letting them know is a bad idea. My two cents on this.
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 Quick fix for XCS owners,Terry West sells 8 pin Lemo to BNC only cables.Composite video only, No power. No problem.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 I have never been able to get the xcs bubble to work through one of those cables...tried three.
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 I have never been able to get the xcs bubble to work through one of those cables...tried three.Hmm, why would that not work, you are just sending the composite video with overlay directly into a composite bnc (cvbs) input of any monitor... Premium Members Afton Grant Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 Greg would obviously know best. My guess would be the power for the PDL needs to make the trip to the monitor and back in order to power the level. The monitor completes the circuit. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 I keep forgetting to bring it up to Greg whenever we talk...but I had the cables made because of the very issues being discussed -- which seemed logical because all I needed was the video out of the pdl. Don't need the power with a batt on the back of my lcd. Strange termination issue on all three cables that Terry attempted...gonna chat with Greg about it and see if he'll make me one. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 18, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2013 Aha, my PDL is build in the Ultimate 1, maybe that's why...Greg?
Premium Members GregBubb Posted July 19, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 19, 2013 The PDL needs power to run the electronics, so power has to go into the PDL. You don't have to feed power out to the monitor (8 pin Lemo to monitor out cable) This is easy to eliminate the power out leads. Takes 1 minute to remove cover, clip of a few leads inside the PDL, in field modification, but heat shrink the hot leads ends please. Proper wiring on sleds. Subject I could go on about for length, but will keep it short. No one should ever belive a 100% what I have to say. A second or third opinion from electronic engineers maybe a better person to ask. Just ask what would happen if I pulled 7 amps at 12Vdc through 4ft. (four feet because current has to make a loop from the battery) of 26 or 28 AWG wire for a few hours every day for a few weeks. That subject will be closed. Chris, lets not ignore the current load maximum of Lemo and Hirose connectors. They can be found in their catalogues. Or the basic ratings of wire gauge, length and load capability when you make a statement about improper wiring. If you feel that Pro sled wiring is up the any type of electronics or video distribution standards, that too says something. It may be their standard, but that is all. With the access to information everyone has at there finger tips there are calculators on the web that can fill in the blanks for most people that have a basic question on power, wire diameter and current load capability, voltage loss of a wire length Vs. diameter. The same holds true for video. Â Greg Bubb
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted July 19, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 19, 2013 Just double checked it again. The composite video with PDL overlay works fine on my setup. XCS Ultimate 1 : 8 pin Lemo (video only) to Cinetronic Gen II into 8 pin Lemo. Premium Members Jerry Hill Posted March 24, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 Definition of Ethics: Moral principles or practice. Mike Skipp and Chris Bangma is it your policy to knock-off everyone’s products? You guys have knocked-off Panavision, Libra Head, Omni Shot, Arriflex, Hill Products, Cinematic Precision and others, so many in fact that you are open to a class action lawsuit. Do you guys have any original thought at all? I cannot count the number of times I have been contacted to fix your product. Greg Bubb do not give them any information because they will steal it! I ask everyone to boycott purchasing from Film-Stuff and Cinewidgets. Please do not encourage the practice of knock-offs. They have no ethics!
