Premium Members Hugo_Langer Posted July 7, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 7, 2013 Hello Everyone! After extensive research, I have come across this dovetail plate which stands out for me, to be the best option. Although expensive, I made the purchase. Very happy. Thought I would share with you all: http://www.cameragak.com/products/61-ARRI-Alexa-Steadicam-Baseplate/ Camera Positioning Systems www.cameragak.com Kind Regards, Hugo LangerRig EngineeringMelbourne, AustraliaT: +61-3-9898-6298F: +61-3-9898-6218W: http://www.steadyrig.com/
Premium Members Ants Martin Vahur Posted July 7, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 7, 2013 On a side note: It only works with Alexa and Alexa Plus. For the Alexa Studio you need to use Arri base plate, because it's bottom is flat but still too far front from the CG of the camera. I'm currently working with Studio and when shooting with the 35mm or tighter lens, when going faster than normal walking speed, I need to mount it with the Arri baseplate to get rid of the shake. With Alexa and Alexa Plus I have been using cam-jam conversion plate which works out great. AntsMartin
Premium Members Joe Lawry Posted July 9, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 9, 2013 There is also the plate from Cinematic Precision - http://www.cinematicprecision.com/steadicam-operator-accessories- They say they've redesigned now to fit Alexa Plus and Alexa Studio! Do you think this would solve your problem Ants?
Premium Members Ants Martin Vahur Posted July 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 Thanks for pointing that out, Joe! I don't work too often with Alexa Studio though, so no need to get another base plate thus far :) I'll see if the next project will be Alexa, Plus, or Studio.. If the next one is also Studio, then I might consider the one you suggested. At the moment we have an Arri WLC focus (integrated transmitter), Rednek HD transmitter (very small) and that's about it, so very decent configuration to fly with. Fly safe! Premium Members Joe Bullen Posted January 11, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 11, 2014 Dear All, Posting on this thread roughly six months after the last comment. Please accept my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere on the site but, what is the current thinking about the best baseplate for the Alexa at the start of 2014? In the market for one and wondered what people now thought was the best? Kind Regards, Joe Bullen joebullensteadicam.com
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted January 12, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 12, 2014 We are still waiting on Eric Fletcher's magical plate that he announced a while back (Unless he showed it already and I missed it). Premium Members Dean Smollar Posted January 31, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 Eric brought his plate to the SOC breakfast meeting. It was beefy, but still pretty sexy. You know, Ron's type.

It was beefy, but still pretty sexy. You know, Ron's type. and while "Beefy" it's only 3 ounces heavier than a regular clamp plate that you would have to mount an adapter that weighs 5-16 ounces. Meaning? it's lighter and stiffer (Ron loves that) than any other Alexa plate out
