Oliver Ward
Ok I consider myself IT literate but the the sign up for this forum was designed by what I can only describe as a 'paranoid film school reject!' let me explain: 1st Challenge question "35mm Film Frame Rate" I finally figured out the answer after several frustrating sessions of filling in the Captcha (which is a night mare in itself) ..... 24fps not 24 nor 23.75 but to be honest the 35mm Film Frame rate is anything you want it to be even 150fps, maybe it should be "what is the standard Frame rate for shooting features on 35mm film?" 2nd You fill in your full name and password and then get asked for a username..... hang on a second what is my username.... Oh must be my email?.... No try again of course silly me Its your full name......! 3rd I'm really surprised I've got the energy or inclination to be writing this........ Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 2, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 I'm sure it keeps a lot of spam out.
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted August 2, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 It only gets worse from here. You should probably just sign out and never come back.

Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted August 2, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 Oliver- Welcome to the forum. 1. Perhaps the 1st challenge question should be changed to "What is the old standard projection rate in fps for 35mm film in the USA?" 2. A little instruction on the username might be helpful, as so many newcomers must be reminded to use their real names. 3. This is pretty much an all volunteer forum, so who designed what under what circumstances is irrelevant; positive suggestions and comments are always welcome.
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted August 2, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 Welcome to the forum, what a great way to introduce yourself with a rant, that's how you get spit in your burger if you were at a restaurant. More seriously, this forum is for professional camera operators specialized in camera stabilization only, and the registration question was even "harder" in the past name the inventor of Steadicam or something like that. The goal is to avoid having too many people who just bot a Chinese knockoff of a Merlin for their camcorder to invade the whole forum. Beside, you don't need to be a member to read the forum, only to contribute and if you're not able to answer a simple technical question, I'm a little scared of the quality of your contributions... On another hand, I agree that a few things should be streamlined in the sing up process, maybe accepting a few variations for the question and a clearer note about the fact that your "nickname" IS you real name. Also, now that you posted the answer to the registration question, people only have to do a search on the forum to find the correct answer. Also the question really should be: What is Lisigav? :)
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted August 2, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 Oliver, Welcome to the Forum (I think). First, I moved your topic so there is a snow balls chance in hell that the Forum owner, Tim Tyler, will actually see your concerns. Second, we are a Forum of professionals so I can't say I agree with you on the 24fps thing (although Jerry brings up a good point about including "US standard" since we are an international community. Third, lighten yup. Cheers.
Premium Members Sanjay Sami Posted August 4, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 I finally figured out the answer after several frustrating sessions of filling in the Captcha (which is a night mare in itself) ..... 24fps not 24 nor 23.75 but to be honest the 35mm Film Frame rate is anything you want it to be even 150fps, maybe it should be "what is the standard Frame rate for shooting features on 35mm film?" .. Is there something you needed answered urgently ? You have been through the ordeal of signing up, so I am guessing you have something important to post ... or was this it ? By and large this is a great community of extremely helpful professionals at the top of their game, who take time to help fellow operators out. If you knew the body of work put out by the operators who contribute here, you would realise the value of being a member of this forum. It would be a shame if you do not have the energy or the inclination to participate in this forum. Good luck. BTW - nightmare is one word.
