Anything you'd like to see in 5000fps ?

In the next 3 days I'll have the joy of working with an imaging solutions nx7, a highspeed camera capable of getting 5000fps at full HD resolution. (Not steadicam work, but still...)

 

After I'll receive a quick intro from the manufacturer, of course I will need to do some more testing to get familiar with it =)

 

I do have many ideas, but thought it might be fun asking you guys.

So, what would you like to see in 5000 fps (that can be pulled off in a hotel room at night)?

I think some epic footage could be shot if video restrictions were lifted at Jumbo's. Baldwin, could you ambassador that?

What lens will you have and what lights will you be stealing to setup in your room? At 5000 fps you won't be able to get away with much.

I will have a full set of LEDs provided by the manufacturer to light an area of about 5feet by 5feet from a reasonable distance, so that'll be ok.

 

A few of my ideas just off the top of my head:

Breaking a glass on the floor

The interiors of a swiss watch

Dropping several things to see their structural reaction

The obvious drop of some fluid falling into a filled bowl

Spilling liquids on the floor

 

I'm sure I'll get more creative when I get to experiment with it tonight =)

At 5000 frames per second you could see the way your hair burns off your fingers as you launch flames with wd-40....

So here I am, first evening, doing some tests. The LEDs are incredible, I have to wear sunglasses. Not kidding.

 

I dont think I have a set of matches, but will try a lighter and get some matches tomorrow. I also have a few glasses ready to break.

Hair burning of my hands... Thank heaven I dont have wd-40 here...

 

A nice suggestion I got was hitting somebody in the face - yup I find those shots pretty interesting, but I doubt that I'll find a volunteer...

 

So far its nice to play with and surprisingly easy to handle!

Go to Home Depot pick up some of that Never Wet stuff. Spray it or paint it all around the room and get some macro shots of the water droplets or chocolate syrup or whatever you can find being repelled at the molecular level.

Neverwet would have been awesome, sadly we don't really have it over here yet.

 

Back from the project, I have had some time to play with it - but not as much as I had hoped.

 

I could try a couple of the suggested things though, light bulb, match, smashing a glass filled with the new red lisigav ;)

Also, we crushed a can of cold Red Bull, making the condensed water visible as it flies off - looks pretty cool.

 

When I get a chance I'll put a small video together and upload it.

I know you already did the shoot, but I was wondering, what happens if to film a CRT screen or an old TV in high speed? Do you see the photon beam scanning the image?
