Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted September 29, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 29, 2013 The effects of the centrifugal force applied to the post will be different the higher or lower its applied. Hence a non coplanar monitor will balance great on the mickey and not be in dynamic balance. This is what Jerry is saying and it seems entirely correct to me. Eric, if you dispute this howabout doing so with some science. Go back and rear the thread title.... DB/Side to side..... yes the mickey will help what I said is entirely correct
David Montroni
Is that the only thing that will cause this particular issue? CoGs not perfectly in line? What is the degree of variation? They need to be spot on?

Premium Members Jason Leeds Posted November 24, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 I thought this thread was about getting in Dynamic Balance. Excuse my ignorance but isn't side to side balance just a component of Dynamic Balance? As is fore/aft? And drop time(minor adjustments can help achieve DB because it can easier with a little less drop time no?) I, having a telescoping post am probably not always perfectly in line with my post's relationship to monitor/batts and even being not absolutely perfect I can find static balance using my stage side/side and fore/aft adjustments. Once I am in static(with the camera's fore/aft cg in the suggested position on the stage,) the monitor is where I want it, and the drop time is acceptable, don't I just proceed to move two masses(camera and batts) until the sled is rotating flat on the docking pin? Can there be more than one way to skin a cat?
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted November 24, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 It is but Jerry et al tend to ignore the side to side component. In my DB method and instructions it is specifically addressed

Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted November 24, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 Once again, and sadly, Eric, you misspeak from ignorance of what "Jerry et al" do. We don't ignore side to side balance at all, as it is impossible to do so and have dynamic balance. Enough already, this is sad.

Mikael Kern
Your Gimbal is a fine "instrument" to check static balance with. It even works for dynamic balance. No need for Mickey.
