Hi there,

 

I'm wondering where I can find the thinest BNC to DIN 1.0/2.3 video cable to run from the camera to the hyperdeck? Or do they make BNC to DIN 1.0/2.3 adaptors?

 

Since the hyper deck doesn't have a BNC input/output and it's kind of big (for steadicam), I'm a little disappointed.

 

I'm sure once it is up and running it will be ok though.

 

If anyone has any info about thin cables, connectors and or adaptors please let me know. Have a great Labor Day!

I actually just had Andrew Ansnick make me a couple earlier this year. Ordered a couple DIN 1.0/2.3 to BNC male pigtails (I think each one is 12 or 18 inches?), use them for recording off my sled.

 

Otherwise, I haven't found a simple adapter yet, and B&H sells them for $30 to the RED community that still uses a RED One/MX. So, a custom build seemed better for price, versatility and price.

I have a HyperDeck on the back of my Zephyr and I use these cables from B&H. They are working great

I would very strongly recommend to take the right angled DIN connectors as the cables are sticking out a lot on the side otherwise. I had thinner cables first (not right angled and the cable broke systematically, no issues since I switched to these)

I second Victor.

I broke 2 straight cables already.

There is no problem after using right angle cable.

 

The recorder is light weight. I just velco it to my sled without its mounting bracket.

Yeah don't bother buying that cheese plate they make for it. It is so heavy (heavier than the recorder itself) I use DualLock to attach it. sturdier than velcro and avoids all vibrations.

I made a recorder mount for my Zephyr to install it on.

Be aware of tension put on the connectors.. I have been using 2 hyperdecks a lot for the past 6 months or so, and I have had the connector come apart on both.

Its really a crappy design..the outer shell of the connector is just pressed into a block, it should be made as one piece, or soldered in.

If it happens, dont try and push it back in, you risk cracking the circuit board... take the unit apart, and pull the board out.

Put the rear of the connector block on something to support it, then use a deep, small socket, or small pipe that fits on the lower lip, but clears the sides of the connector (you do not want to mar the sides) then press it back in.

This allows you to avoid putting the pressure directly on the circuit board.

...or tape the DIN cable adaptor to the recorder. If the NBC pulls it'll only pull on the tape. Not the connector or the board.

Victor, tape might help, but this is a design flaw.. Just plugging and unplugging the cable over and over will eventually loosen it up and cause it to come apart.
