Steadicam on "Elysium"

This was posted before the movie came out. I kept waiting for this scene but it wasn't in the movie! It looks like they just cut out of the scene earlier than this fight plays out. So bummed, really wanted to see if it came together at all.

All of the swinging moves seem not very solid at start and stop.

Look at all the ends of the moves, the camera didn't come to a solid stop.

Too hard to cut it into scenes.

May only use 1 or 2 seconds (max) in between the swing.

Not at all. There could be any number of reasons the footage wasn't used, least of all how well it was shot or edited (in my experience watching movies). But they have other coverage of the scene, so if they used any of that steadicam shot at all I expected it to be quick cuts, shorter than the 1-2 second max Ken mentioned. Incidentally, I don't thing solid stops was ever a concern.

What I'm pretty sure I do know is that they simply cut the scene shorter. There is a fight scene at the top of the 3rd act that appears to be this one, but it ends with Damon getting knocked unconscious before they exit the craft. I imagine this was just a longer version of the scene and it was cut for time/pacing.

It's a fight scene in a major motion picture -not a steadicam workshop.

Love that the monitor is off so it's op'ing on skill and instinct. That's exciting.

The swinging and stuff not only looks silly (why not just go hand held or easy rig or whatever, as a viewer, you won't tell anyways). It also looks dangerous, that hit on the second camera's mattebox could easily have gone the wrong way.

Wow, not trying to start a flame war but have you not worked on a feature before? It may look silly but it's bits and pieces that make up scenes like those and more importantly I'll bet the director asked for it on the rig. All egos and experience aside the set is not a democracy. If the director (and I'm talking a real director) wants whatever on the rig then under most circumstances the answer is 'yes'.

Yes, it's not a democracy. But it's not a dictatorship, either. If you are harming yourself or others, step off. Okay, this ludicrous "operating" isn't that dangerous and it's the operator who doesn't seem to care much about him or his surroundings.

Sorry, but I don´t see ludicrous, dangerous or careless anywhere in this.
