Premium Members Lars Erik Posted September 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 15, 2013 Wow. Finally we who work a lot of tv, might have a good competitor when it comes to cameras. I never did like the way Sony's XD series blow out the highlights. This might give us an edge when dealing with producers. I tried to find out the weight of the body, but didn't find any info. Anyone know? The price is according to Arri, way below the Alexa Classic.
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted September 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 15, 2013 Weight is ~10lbs for the body (top handle and shoulder base included) The weight may change as the cameras they are showing are prototypes and they are works in progress. Price also isn't set but it will be significantly less than an Alexa
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted September 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 15, 2013 Maybe this is me just "Pissing" on myself but it's amazing how Arri has continually found ways to build cameras from a user/operator perspective and Sony continues to design from an engineering perspective. Maybe its Arri coming from a "Film" background but after using the Panavised F55 I long for an Arriflex product. Panavision has made great strides in morphing the F55 into a functioning production tool but unless Sony resolves what we were told were "Known Issues" this camera is less than professional. I look forward to the new Arri Offering. Ramon
Premium Members Kris Torch Wilson Posted September 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 15, 2013 Take no offense my friends. My poor attempt at humor was misaligned as I typed while looking through the bottom of a martini glass. I was chuckling as I remembered how not too many years ago, anything electronic was poo pood as amateurish. If it didn't have sprockets, it wasn't worthy of conversation. Clearly you have all evolved and my sense of humor has not. My respect for anyone who straps on a rig is genuine, regardless of the signal's source. Remind me to put down my iPad as I open a bottle. Seriously it was funny last night. Torch
Premium Members nealnorton Posted September 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 16, 2013 Sequels are often pretty boring. . . I was not so eagerly waiting for "Alexa 2 - Triumph of the VFX Guy" You know - a long self indulgent production that is more about math than pictures. The younger audience would love it. Ha! Was I ever looking the wrong direction. So we have the Alexa XT camera that makes shooting features or commercials with Arriraw a joy. Anamorphic lenses on a great 4:3 camera a big plus. Big price / Big quality. Then produce an Alexa quality camera for the very large ProRes / TV / 16X9 market that is just plain well engineered. Brilliant. And 200FPS. And quality sound. And internal filters. And multiple lens mounts. And those fantastic sliding base and top handles. Here I was waiting for Arri to cave in to the clamor for 4K and SURPRISE! instead they build another great camera that looks to be fun to use. Bravo!
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted September 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 16, 2013 how far can it be stripped down for a 3D setup? Top Handle, Shoulder mount, what about the audio SLR section? are they planning a no audio version for even cheaper?

Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted September 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 16, 2013 Kris, I got the joke and enjoyed it immensely. As for the camera, it looks very promising, especially for documentary/reality shooting and a lighter-weight option for Steadicam.
Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 According to Arri´s information on their „Amira Microsite“ there will be an option for a B4 mount. What is it good for? Does this come with some kind of optical converter? Will there be an „electronic 16 mm mode“, in which only part of the sensor is used ? As far as I know the only single sensor camera that can deal with 2/3 inch broadcast lenses is Panasonic´s HPX 600. B4 lenses are made for 3CCD/3CMOS setups. Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 The b4 mount has an optical converter. Plus there is a sony style lens control hirose in the same position as you would find on a sony broadcast camera
Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 That is a real killer feature, and this camera will be a game changer more than RED, Sony F-Series, Blackmagics or Panasonics AF-100 ever have been. These box cameras look like they were designed by the Brothers Lumiere and they do have ergonomics from the 19th century. Camera design is back!
Premium Members Thomas English Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 I believe there is going to be an option to window the sensor for s16 glass. I don't know what resolution that will give from the sensors 3000 odd pixels lengthways. Is the B4 adaptor going to have optics in it? Certainly my friend is using B4 lenses on a c300 using Mike Tapas optical adaptor with some success.
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 Nope, no s16 crop mode. Only the 1080 frame. Also this camera will not do arri's new open gate. The B4 adapter has an optic in it to enlarge the b4 lens image circle. It should not change the 35mm focal length (2/3" lens will have a 2.4x conversion factor ie a 10mm lens will be a 24mm)
