Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted September 17, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2013 The Mike Tapas Adapter works only with lenses that do have a range extender and the range extender has to be engaged. A 4,5 mm Super Wide Angle becomes a 9 mm. 9 mm on a (2/3 inch) video zoom as widest choice, that was good in 1988. (I don´t know what "real" focal length comes out of the adaptor, it magnifies). You loose light and the lens gets soft. Range extenders are nice to have but working all the time with them engaged is not what they are intended for. I hope Arri has a better solution. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 Just coming from an Amira demo. It is confirmed the Amira will use a different, new 8 pin power plug, uses about 55 watts (85 watts Alexa) and weights in at about 10lbs, body only. Start-up time less than 10 seconds. Same chip as Alexa, 16:9 only though, Pros Res, 200FPS on Cfast 2.0 cards, PL, PV, EF and B4 mounts

Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 Why the hell does a power plug need 8 pins? Does the sliding baseplate come off and give reasonable mounting options? Are we going to need a new plate? ~Jess

The sliding base does not come off, you use a Alexa plate. The one that will be up on Film-stuff on friday will be the perfect plate. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 another reason according to Arri is "space", the 2 pin fisher took up to much space in the housing and was replaced by the 8 pin, it makes sense when you see it in person....cost of doing business, tax deductible B)
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 I tried to get the designers to go with the fisher but they showed me why it needs to be an 8pin and it's done for reason. No need to complain about it just move on
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 How about speaking to the designers and have them add flip and flop to the monitor output Eric?

Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 Eric Is referring to the Alexa camera firmware 10 that will have image flip. The Amira will have it eventually too.
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 They have promised this in SUP8.0 as I recall. I'll believe it when I see it.
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted January 27, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 I hear you Doc. With the new super short zoom they have to have image flip since the lens doesn't have the final relay optics to flip the image
