Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted September 19, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted September 19, 2013 Hi Glen I hope you are aware your BFD system is more powerful and far better then the Preston (15 year old analogue) you are looking at ? Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted September 19, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 19, 2013 Hi Glen I hope you are aware your BFD system is more powerful and far better then the Preston (15 year old analogue) you are looking at ? They are two different tools with different pros and cons. Bartech is cheap and solid, with a super torque on the M-One motor, Preston is the industry standard for 3 channel, has pre-marked rings with auto calibration and works wonderfully with a Cinetape. Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted September 19, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 19, 2013 If you work in the Live TV/Performance world where you need to control your own focus, Preston would not be able to provide a focus system, But Bartech and Stanton would. I'd love to go all digital and have a Preston....if they made a control pot to manually control the Focus motor from your gimbal, then maybe I could. But to date, there are no digital systems that do that. Main reason I stay with my Analog BFD's. They have NEVER let me down, in ANY condition. Premium Members Glenn Clayton Posted September 20, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted September 20, 2013 Its true that my Bartech has served me VERY well. I guess saying upgrade wasn't the right word, more just an upgrade to have more channels. I know the bartech can now be altered to allow more channels but I got a good deal with the Preston that worked out better than upgrading my Bartech kit. :)

Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted September 26, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted September 26, 2013 Well Glen It's your choice to buy a 10-15 year old system that may or may not be able to service/repair and as for resale in say another year or so is nothing .Good luck with it . Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted September 26, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 26, 2013 Louis, what do you mean? Glenn is selling the 10-15 year old gear (bartech) to buy a brand new preston. Preston is a great tool, so is the Bartech. The bartech is an old design but rarely breaks down (broke only once on a rental one that looked in poor shape from the start) The preston has other bells and whistles that the bartech analog does not have. I recently bought a bartech (1 year old) and yes, there are stories about the m-one breaking and having issues with service, but it is still a great tool. I am not sure what you are trying to say... Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted September 27, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 Hi Victor Glen is buying a very old analogue Preston and selling a fantastic BFD .The m1 is a different matter made by a different person . For me it's value for money is my point, resale ,getting the system repaired in the future. Its a little like me buying a 3a rig and selling my Ultra 1 . Just my opinion thats all . Premium Members Glenn Clayton Posted October 17, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks Louis. Maybe next time I'll purchase the upgrade for the Bartech from you since you are the Austalian dealer for the Bartech.Cheers for the opinion thought. Also no need to worry since I'm upgrading the HU and MDR receiver board. :)
