I'm searching for a wireless HD transmitter / receiver to transmit uncompressed HDTV and video data up to 1080p with a realtime transmission feature of <1ms latency and a robust signal transmission. Someone recommends the SRI WHDI Module No.1 from a german company, see link http://www.sri.de/en/products/industry-pcs/prod/whdi-modul-no-1/extb/Main/ Does anybody has experience with this module? Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted September 30, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 Hey Martin Im not sure where you are located, but if you are looking to rent that SRI WHDI I dont see it available anywhere in Los Angeles, so you may be looking to purchase or rent from an owner. While the Teradek has its applicaitons, I have experienced delay in the past. Maybe newer models are better, but I quickly abandoned it. The Paralinx is super simple to use and has been reliable on every occassion Ive used it. I personally own the CamWave (CW-5HD), and while I am not 100% satisfied (occassional signal drops, bulky size) it does the trick. There is an updated CW-7HD which Im sure is better. Boxx Meridian is pretty high end and Ive never heard a complaint. Are you looking for HDMI or SDI transmission? Ultimately it doesnt matter too much, because there are converters for that sort of thing, but I like less knots in the rope. The lack of support and available information on the SRI model concerns me enough to entertain other kinds of transmitters, but if you are able to sample it, then I wholeheartedly support that. If you have a good experience with it, then maybe its the right one for you. Sorry I cant give you any specific information regarding the SRI. Brett, I too was an early user of Teradek with their Cube and ended up returning it after a couple weeks; way too much latency and it just wasn't the right tool for the job. I recently picked up the HD-SDI Bolt a couple months ago and would like to share that the latency is much, much better. It sends the signal uncompressed whereas I believe the Cube compresses the video before sending. Works for 95% of my operating needs. Sometimes a thick wall does it in though... The CamWave is fine for close range and non-RF rich environments. The Bolt has better range and is by far much more robust when there is a lot of RF to compete with. As an example, two years ago at 2011and 2012 NAB the CamWave system worked fine when I was demoing on Steadicam at NAB for Angenieux lenses. This year the CamWave would not hold and lock a signal at any distance. Keep in mind that 2013 NAB was the tipping point of everyone and their brother offering new wireless systems so the place was like a giant microwave inside. Michael at Teradek was kind enough to loan me a Teradek Bolt that week and it was a solid signal up to about 100+ feet in any direction. I decided to buy one immediately. In normal set environments we get much better range. The Boxx Meridian will go extreme distances but costs 6x more. I use it when the stakes and budgets are high. If you're on big shows, with those budgets several times a week and can get the rental to justify it the Boxx is about as good as it can get. My company Teletest has just launched a HD Video Wireless Link, the TELESEND. The HD receiver is built into the LCD monitor making it the only one of its type in the world. Would someone on the Steadicam Forum in the UK like to borrow a kit for a few weeks and write a brief review? The TELESEND is designed as a wireless confidence monitor and a broadcast quality link: There are versions of the LCD receiver with HDMI and HD-SDI outputs for feeding the media village and also a version with two receivers built in, for multi-camera shoots. The transmitter will transmit HDMI, HD-SDI and even PAL/NTSC if required. The TELESEND uses the Amimon chipset and has a latency of <1ms. You can see two videos on our website showing that the delay is practically zero. The TX and RX are matched pairs that Dynamicaly Select the Frequency (DFS - ie auto-tune) so the TELESEND is simply turn on and forget. Ranges of 30m-40m without breaking up can be achieved when moving around, and ranges of up to 70m without breaking up can be achieved when the TX and RX are fixed. Feedback from Hire Companies and Lighting Cameramen whom have bought the TELESEND in the last 6 weeks says that it performs better than the IDX WEVI / Camwave and the Teradek BOLT and it would be great to have feedback from a Steadicam user who can compare it against kit they already own.
