NOT Simon Blouin
Hey guys, I'm pretty much in trouble right now... I'm on a music video shoot for the weekend and today as I was doing a shot, video village saw some vibrations appear... After looking every single screws and tightening them, vibrations were still there... I remarked a loose in the gimbal. Like when I take the gimbal with two fingers, one on each side and shake the gimbal from up to down, there's physically a loose in the gimbal.. The gimbal is a 4 months old Pro... Does someone already saw that and if yes, what the hell I am doing, the shoot is beginning on 5h30 tomorow morning... Thank you!
NOT Simon Blouin
At firts... is it normal or not that there is a little loose in the gimbal..?
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 12, 2013 Is it loose under load when you are operating? It should be normal to have some play in the gimbal when it's not under load. Have you checked your top stage? What about doing the shake test? If you are using an alexa do you have an special plate to hold the back of the camera?
NOT Simon Blouin
Hi Victor, It's loose when it's not under load... We started with a 35mm lens and it was alright, after we switched on the 65mm and then it was shaking... The top stage looks fine, all the screws are well tightened... And we are using a big epic... What is your shake test..?
NOT Simon Blouin
Seems like the little play in the gimbal is normal when it's not under load... What could it be then, EVERYTHING is tight...
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 13, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2013 The sake test is you -- shake your rig when lifting it. If you feel or hear something moving, there is your issue. Check your batteries, on gold mount most people add apiece of velcro on the battery plate to stop the brick from moving. the slightest thing can translate into vibrations. I had a similar issue on my sled (zephyr), the top stage was loose, and it was a screw that was all the way inside.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted October 13, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2013 A little play in the pro gimbal while not under load is normal. What monitor/monitor bracket/camera/camera mounting plate are you using?
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted October 13, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2013 There is a bolt that connects the yoke to the handle that I have had come loose in the past. Can be tightened by removing the gimbal from the post. Also if you using a new PRO Donkey Box there is an adjustment for play that shows up with the shake test of the side to side and front to back adjustment threads using a special tool provided from PRO. There is a tutorial on their website showing you how to adjust. Lastly, check the collars on the top and bottom of the PRO post to make sure those are tight. I had one come loose when I first got it and you need to use the special wrench that should have been provided with the kit.
NOT Simon Blouin
So the final result : It was effectively a play in the lens. The DP tried the setup on the shoulder and we saw a little bit of the same vibrations... Clearly not as much as on the stead though...So he asked the rental house to get us another one, and it was okay then. I was pretty much relieved when we confirmed it.Thanks to all of you again. Fly safe!
